Describe the week’s content and resources to a person who has not seen/heard or observed it.

Think about the material you encountered in the course this week, and describe one aspect of the classroom resources (Assignments, Discussions, or assigned readings) that surprised you. Make sure to describe why the material interested you as a thinker.

Set a timer (on the stove, a clock or on your phone) and write for ten minutes without stopping. The prompts will remain the same each week, but you will reflect about a different aspect of each week’s resources.

By Day 7

Post an entry that addresses each of the following:

· Observe. Describe the week’s content and resources to a person who has not seen/heard or observed it.

· Process. Answer the question: “What does this content/topic mean?”

· Reflect. Answer the question: “What is the value in understanding this?”

The objective of this Assignment is to provide you with a private place to think on the page; “thinking on the page” is a phrase used to describe writing as a form of thinking. Some of us process our thoughts out loud as we describe them to others. In an academic environment, you will be asked to record your ideas in writing or “thinking on the page” to show the new knowledge that you’ve acquired through reading and listening to the resources and completing the assignments. The journal is not a formal type of writing and only you and your Instructor will see the journal entry.

The weekly journals will be used to develop a personalized academic writing plan that will fit into the Week 6 Personal Success Plan Assignment.

Each journal must be at least three paragraphs long, but you are allowed to write as much as you would like. These entries are meant to be free writing, but you should revise before submitting. Your journal entries will be graded on participation and do not have rubrics.

To prepare for writing your Journal entry:

· Review the Montante article in the Week 3 Learning Resources.

· Review the Academic Writing Expectations Checklist to guide your writing.

· Review sample journal entries posted in an Announcement.

Assignment Instructions:

Think about the material you encountered in the course this week, and describe one aspect of the classroom resources (Assignments, Discussions, or assigned readings) that surprised you. Make sure to describe why the material interested you as a thinker.

Set a timer (on the stove, a clock or on your phone) and write for ten minutes without stopping. The prompts will remain the same each week, but you will reflect about a different aspect of each week’s resources.

Explain how would you respond to this conflict today and/or what steps you would take to improve your comfort level and skill for managing conflict in the future (including specific conflict management strategies you would use).

In Week 10, you considered how ethical, moral, and legal dilemmas can provoke internal conflict when a nurse’s values are not in alignment with the apparent demands of a situation or with others’ values, as well as external conflict that can arise as these dynamics are played out. Of course, conflict can also emerge through seemingly simple issues of little consequence—little consequence, that is, except when they are not properly managed.

Nurse leaders need to be familiar with conflict management styles and the impact these styles can have on interpersonal dynamics, and, ultimately, patient care. For this Discussion, you evaluate a situation marked by conflict and consider how conflict management strategies could be applied to promote positive results.

To prepare:

·        Consider a conflict situation you witnessed or were engaged in within your practice setting. Then, proceed as follows:

o   Think about who was involved, how it was resolved (if it was), and how it might have been handled more effectively.

o   Identify the conflict management style(s) employed by various individuals, including ineffective responses or no response to the situation.

o   Evaluate your personal response to this conflict.

·        What do your thoughts and actions in this and other conflict situations reveal about your typical approach to conflict?

On the Week 11 Discussion Board, post a response APA format , 2 scholarly references

1.      a description of how you handled or avoided a conflict, as well as the results of your approach.

2.      Explain how would you respond to this conflict today and/or what steps you would take to improve your comfort level and skill for managing conflict in the future (including specific conflict management strategies you would use).

3.      Explain how conflict management relates to your effectiveness as a leader.

Identify an MCO functioning in both your area and in some other parts of the country (for example, BCBS of California and BCBS of Georgia). Compare the organizations relative to the type of managed care products each offers

Managed care’s level of control and relationships with medical service providers has been described on a continuum of control from the least controlled managed care model to the most restrictive as:

  • Tighter elements of control over health care delivery
  • More direct interaction with providers
  • Increased overhead cost and complexity
  • Greater control of utilization
  • Increased control on quality

The continuum of managed care models helps to understand the level of control for access, quality, and costs for each model. It is also true that managed care models are influenced by the market they serve. The geographic region impacts the design of managed care models. On the basis of what you learned in your readings of this week and the information provided in this assignment, answer the following questions:

  • Examine the importance of the continuum in understanding the differences among managed care plans.
  • Identify an MCO functioning in both your area and in some other parts of the country (for example, BCBS of California and BCBS of Georgia). Compare the organizations relative to the type of managed care products each offers.
  • Compare and contrast your findings with what you learned in readings this week.
  • If you were an employer looking for a managed care product for your employees, which of these three: HMO, PPO, or CDHP would you choose and why?

After answering the above questions, read the following information:

There are several key elements required in a physician’s contract with an MCO. A typical contract between an MCO and a physician specifies the types of services offered, the number of members or lives covered in the plan, the standards and credentials needed to be maintained by the provider, and, of course, compensation. Utilize your readings and search the South University Online library or the Internet to answer the following questions:

  • Explain the key elements of the physician’s contract.
  • Examine the common clauses and provisions of the physician’s contract.
  • Explain the contract negotiation and credentialing process.

Summarize the Every Woman Matters program and how the issue of women’s preventive health care was approached. Analyze possible reasons the program was ineffective.

One strategy that has proven effective for improving population health outcomes is screening. Screening programs for breast, cervical, prostate, and colon cancer allow for early detection and treatment, thereby improving health outcomes. Advocates of early screening programs have sought to inform populations at risk of the value of participating in early screening.

Consider the following examples: In Florida, mobile mammography units have reached out to uninsured women and provided free mammograms. In Maryland, Wellmobiles go out into the community to provide primary and preventive health care services to geographically underserved communities and uninsured individuals across the state. Many such programs are available for individuals to participate in screening, regardless of ability to pay.

In this Assignment, you will evaluate the characteristics of preventive health programs that lead to successful outcomes.

To prepare:

  • Review the article “Improving Female Preventive Health Care Delivery Through Practice Change” found in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider why the Every Woman Matters program was not effective in meeting its goals.
  • Using the Walden Library and other credible websites, identify at least two successful advocacy programs for early cancer screening and evaluate the characteristics that made them effective based on the evidence presented in the article or website.

To complete:

Write a 4- to 5-page paper that includes the following:

  • Summarize the Every Woman Matters program and how the issue of women’s preventive health care was approached. Analyze possible reasons the program was ineffective.
  • Summarize the characteristics at least two prevention programs that advocate for early screening, describing what made them successful.
  • If you were the nurse leader in charge of developing a follow-up to the Every Woman Matters program, what strategies would you propose for creating a more effective prevention program?
