Vignette Analysis III: This assignment focuses on vignette analysis and direct application of course concepts to the persons and situations presented in the vignette for each question. All discussions must take into account the legal and ethical considerations, as well as issues of culture and human diversity that may pertain to the situations presented below.

Use the reading assignments thoroughly in an integrative discussion. Remember to reference all work cited or quoted by the text authors. You should be doing this often in your responses

Please keep your responses focused on what is presented in the vignette. Do not add information but use your creativity to support what you see in the vignette as written. Avoid elaborations and assumptions. This assignment MUST be typed, double-spaced, in APA style, and must be written in graduate level English.Your assignment should be 3-4 pages in length per vignette PLUS a title and reference page Vignette Five (3-4 page response)Anna, is an 83-years old Native-American woman who lives alone, and takes numerous medications for heart disease, COPD and an anxiety disorder. Recently, Anna has fallen several times, but has sustained only minor bruising. Anna’s daughter Betty and her husband have been discussing whether or not Anna should continue to live alone. Anna is quite independent although she no longer drives and is occasionally “forgetful” about family birthdays and appointments. Anna has expressed her concerns about retirement community, assisted living, or nursing home living as she does not feel comfortable in strange situations. Betty wonders if she should decrease her work hours in order to spend more time at her mother’s house. Betty and her husband are considering having someone live with Anna part time or full time, but she worries about her mother’s safety and her mother’s distrust of strangers.  Finances are also an issue and Betty is seeking information and referral resources to assist the family’s informed decisions.
The decision about where and how to provide care for family members who have chronic conditions is emotionally charged and multifaceted. Reliance on family members as care providers creates multiple stressors for the family. What types of stressors might Anna, Betty, and other family members experience?
What are potential/actual policy, legal, ethical, emotional, financial, and spiritual issues that Anna’s family may experience? What resources can you offer to them?
Client and family education is “critical to successful coping with chronic illnesses.” Clinicians must carefully approach every client and family who may be similar in some respects to others, yet be quite distinct. The clinician must consider characteristics such as age, culture, socioeconomic status, functional status, motivation, self-efficacy, and learning capability. How will this assessment information guide your work with Anna and Betty? What developmental stage characteristics do you need to consider?

Vignette Six (3-4 page response)
A colleague and you decide to collaboratively work with a culturally diverse support group of teens who have Tourette Syndrome. The members’ self-identified cultural groups include: African-American, Japanese- American, Mexican-American, Jewish-American, and Anglo-American. You will collect intake assessment data, facilitate support group meetings for teens and families, use multiple media to provide information and resource, work closely with the treating physicians, psychiatrists and other health professionals to coordinate care in an ethical format.Consider cultural myths that you may encounter. What are elements of those cultural myths in light of the definitions of cultural competency? How might you investigate each teen’s cultural beliefs and values about their health and their illness
Currently a variety of models, theories, and frameworks are available to assist clinicians in providing appropriate care for diverse populations. Which of these models, theories and frameworks do you feel would facilitate a cohesive group for these teens with Tourette Syndrome?  What legal and ethical issues might arise during group process?
For healthcare professionals, there is a paramount need to incorporate appropriate strategies in all healthcare settings and to allocate resources in ways that recognize the patterns and lifeways of people of all cultures. From a holistic perspective, it is important to advocate for the client’s cultural needs. What creative interventions would you employ to assure culturally competent care for teens in this group? How would you ensure that the goals of this group align with those of Healthy People 2020 to address health disparities?

Discuss any concerns you may have about applying to or attending graduate school. List any questions you have about the application or licensure process.

In the Discussion Area, address the following:

  • Select one of the careers that require graduate-level degrees.
  • Identify at least three graduate school programs you would consider attending. For example, if you hope to become a licensed professional counselor (LPC), you would first need to earn a master’s degree at the very least. You would want to research programs that provide master’s degrees in counseling. Include research on whether you would fulfill the requirements for licensure in your state of residence if you completed those specific programs. Cover the following:
    • Indicate which license you would seek and which programs would or would not prepare you to be eligible for licensure.
    • If you want to become licensed, ensure that these programs meet your state’s requirements for licensure. For example, if you wish to become an LPC, you would have to review the American Association of State Counseling Boards and locate your state’s licensing board website address.
  • For each of the three graduate school programs, research and discuss the institution’s accreditation. You may find that many state licensing boards require programs to be regionally accredited.
    • You might want to review the US Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs to determine whether the school is regionally accredited.
    • Most states also require a specialized accreditation for licensure as an LPC or a psychologist. For counseling licenses, most states honor programs that have the CACREP designation. For psychology licenses, APA accreditation is usually required. Find programs with the CACREP designation.
  • Discuss any concerns you may have about applying to or attending graduate school. List any questions you have about the application or licensure process.
  • Provide at least two authoritative references or sources for the information you have discussed. One of these can be the textbook.

Submission Details:

  • Write your initial response in a minimum of 100–150 words.

Brief description of the theory’s origin (background, how was it developed, who created it) and basic philosophies (its view of human nature, theory of change, view of psychopathology, the role of the counselor).

Theoretical Framework and Application 2

You will select one theory of psychotherapy studied in Units 5–9 (one of the pragmatic approaches—such as cognitive, CBT, and REBT—feminist, multicultural, family systems, or a postmodern approach) to describe, analyze, and then apply the theory to the case study of Rona, which now includes additional information based on her initial sessions with you. You may also choose one primary theory and integrate concepts from one other theory. The areas you should focus on when analyzing the theory are listed below. This APA-style paper should be 6–8 pages (excluding references and title page), so select the information carefully, using the most relevant and applicable.

Theoretical Analysis

  1. Brief description of the theory’s origin (background, how was it developed, who created it) and basic philosophies (its view of human nature, theory of change, view of psychopathology, the role of the counselor).
  2. How this theory aligns with your own philosophy, values, and views of the therapeutic process.
  3. An evaluation of the research evidence supporting this theory, with an example of a current study.
  4. The appropriateness of this theory for diverse populations.

Theoretical Application

  1. Goals you will work on with Rona (make sure the goals align with the chosen therapeutic approach).
  2. Interventions and techniques you will use with Rona, based on your theoretically established goals. Be very specific. Assume that you will have up to three sessions with her.
  3. Cultural considerations you will keep in mind while using this therapeutic approach with Rona.
  4. Strengths and limitations of using this theory with Rona.

Technical Requirements

  • References: You must have a minimum of 5 scholarly resources. All references must be from peer-reviewed academic journals, and should be no more than 10 years old. The optional readings for each unit will help you begin your research. You may cite the course textbook and other textbooks, but your papers should draw primarily upon scholarly resources. You must use proper APA style to list your references. Refer to the Capella Online Writing Center’s APA Style and Formatting module for more information.
  • Length of paper: The body of the paper must be 6–8 pages, not including the reference lists, abstract, or the title page.
  • Written communication: Develop accurate written communication and thoughts that convey the overall goals of the project and do not detract from the overall message. Your paper should demonstrate graduate-level writing skills.
