Explain how this individual’s cultural worldview is similar to or different from what you know about this individual’s cultural group.

For your Final Project, you select an individual you do not know well to interview (e.g., classmate, coworker, and neighbor). This individual must be different from you in at least two of the following ways: race and/or ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.

The Final Project is a 4- to 6-page narrative that includes the following components:

1. Summary of theInterview:

Use the questions below as a base for your interview, and feel free to ask your subject additional questions as needed:

  • List all of the aspects of your identity that you feel comfortable sharing. (If the interviewee has difficulty understanding the term identity, provide some examples such as race and/or ethnicity, gender, or religion. Try to get as complete a personal history as possible to fill in the subject’s profile.
  • Of those aspects, what is the one identity that you think is most important or most salient and why?
  • What identity is the second most important to you and why?
  • Which identity do you spend the least amount of time thinking about and why?
  • Think about your most important identity. What messages did you receive about that aspect of your identity during your childhood/adolescence? What messages have you received about that aspect of your identity as an adult?
  • Considering the most salient identity for you, in what ways are you similar or different from other individuals who share the same identity?

    2.       Create a profile

  • Using the ADDRESSING format, create a profile of the individual, including a summary of the interview questions.
  • Explain the individual’s cultural worldview.

    3.       Summation

  • Explain how this individual’s cultural worldview is similar to or different from what you know about this individual’s cultural group. Did you have any preconceived notions that you had to reevaluate after the interview? Did you find any inconsistencies between your experience and what you have read in the Learning Resources?
  • Explain how this interview illustrates the complexity of identity.
  • What implications does this interview have for a future counseling interaction you might have with someone who represents a culture/identity similar to this interviewee’s? What have you learned that you might apply in your future work with clients?

In a 4- to 6-page paper (Note: title page, reference pages, and full transcription of interview do not count toward total page count):

Provide an analysis of your interview by addressing all components outlined in these guidelines and support your findings with appropriate literature. Be sure to use APA format and correct grammar and spelling.

summarize what you have read as if you were the author condensing the book into 400 tight words.

The 4MAT Review system is a way of responding to readings that requires you to interact with new ideas on several levels. Your 4MAT Reviews must each be 5 pages.

Use the following format in preparing your 4MAT Reviews:

Summary

After listing the author and chapter, summarize what you have read as if you were the author condensing the book into 400 tight words. Prove that you comprehend the readings by writing a no-nonsense summary. This section is not a commentary or listing of topics, but rather an in depth, insightful “précis” of the content.

Concrete Responses

Get vulnerable! In 250 words, relate a personal life experience that this book connected with in your own life. Relate your story in first person, describing action and quoting sentences you remember hearing or saying. In the teaching style of Jesus, this is a do-it-yourself parable, case study, and/or confession. You will remember almost nothing you have read unless you make this critical, personal connection. What video memory began to roll? This is your chance to tell your story and make new ideas found in the book your own.

Reflection

What new questions arise for you in response to what you have read? Keep a rough note sheet at hand as you read. Begin with questions like, “What would I like further information on?” Where do I not agree/strongly agree with the author?” or “What bothers me/excites me about this content?” This section must be about 250 words.

Application

How does the information in the book influence how you are going to continue your own personal growth process? What actions or changes are you going to make in your life as a result of your learning? Your response here is a matter of obedience first, questions later. Be precise in summarizing your action steps. This section must be limited about 250 words.

Please note: Your grade on each 4MAT Review depends on the manner in which you address each of these 4 dimensions of response to readings.

4MAT Review 2 covers Parrott and Parrott’s entire book, The Complete Guide to Marriage Mentoring, and it is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 7.

Starting a Group

Group therapy represents a large portion of treatment opportunities for clients battling substance use disorders. Groups are an important part of treatment, allowing clients to feel as though they are not alone in facing a problem and that other people have faced similar problems and overcome them successfully.

This particular assignment consists of two parts. For this assignment, assume that you have been working as an individual counselor at a substance abuse treatment center for some time now. Your supervisor has asked you to create a therapy group for a handful of the substance abuse clients that you and the other counselors work with. In order to identify the appropriate clients that can be placed in your group, your supervisor has asked you to prepare a report outlining the important points of the group you are forming:

Part I

Prepare a 1–2-page report detailing the following items in your group design:

  • Goal(s) of group
  • Group norms (such as attendance requirements, privacy, confidentiality, relationships with group members, etc.)
  • Differences between therapy group and self-help groups
  • Procedure for dealing with disruptive and/or resistant clients
  • Form(s) of power to be used
  • Consequences for relapse
  • Procedure for dealing with a member leaving the group

Part II

For the next part of this assignment, read this passage and address the questions that follow:

As the group leader, it is important to take time to look at some of the issues you may need to be aware of in yourself throughout each of the four stages of group development. For example, the second stage of group development includes an opportunity for clients to challenge or critique you. The way you handle criticism is an issue you need to identify and be wary of how you respond. Keeping this in mind, your supervisor has asked you to do the following:

  • Reflect on your potential issues for each of the four stages of group development.
  • Present at least two self-care strategies that you will be able to choose from in order to address these issues as they arise in your career.

Write a 3–4-page paper that includes both parts of the assignment in Word format. Include a title page in APA format.
