Describe the reasons provided for the effectiveness of the program (for example: A full stomach reduces hunger, etc.).

Evaluation of a Weight Loss Program

Many Americans believe that they are overweight, from a few pounds to a few hundred pounds. Because of this, weight loss systems are big business. For this assignment you are to select weight loss system and evaluate it in terms of the information about the physiology of ingestive behavior covered this week.

  • Find a Web site/brochure/popular article/advertising about weight control that proposes a mechanism for loss of excess weight.
  • Document the key proposals in terms of the main claims for success  for the program (for example: restriction of fat, small portions).
  • Describe the reasons provided for the effectiveness of the program (for example: A full stomach reduces hunger, etc.).
  • Discuss the physiological components involved in the weight loss program. Clearly express an understanding of the physiology of the process of hunger, satiation, eating, and drinking as relevant for the weight loss method being described (for example: Long periods between meals would be likely to reduce blood sugar levels).
  • Present a critique of the materials based on the module information on eating and weight regulation.
  • Evaluate the proposal and suggest whether you would try this weight loss system or recommend it to someone else. Explain why or why not.

For this assignment you are required to cite, at a minimum, the online course and the text book for the course. Additional sources are welcome. Scholarly sources are preferred and can be found through AUO’s Library.  Please see the Library and Tutoring Services section under Course Home to use AUO’s Library.  Additional, non-scholarly sources from reputable Web and print sources are also acceptable. For reputable Web sources, look for .org, .net, or .edu sites as opposed to .com sites. Please do not use Wikipedia.

Your paper should be double-spaced and in 12 point, Times New Roman font with normal one-inch margins, written in APA style, and free of typographical and grammatical errors.  It should include a title page and a reference page. The body of the paper should be between 3-4 pages. Submit your response to the M4: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Sunday, August 11, 2013.

Briefly describe your chosen figure’s personality from the point of view of each of these five approaches.

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read the required Churchill and Mruk (2014), Hayes (2012), and Waterman (2013) articles, and review the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct  and Chapters 14 through 17 in your textbook.

For this discussion, you will choose a person who has an important presence in popular media today. This person might be a political, business, human rights, education, or entertainment figure. Examine the major theoretical approaches studied in the class so far (psychodynamic, behavioral, learning, trait and type, and humanistic). Briefly describe your chosen figure’s personality from the point of view of each of these five approaches. Evaluate and describe any cultural considerations which may affect the personality assessment within each of the given approaches. Analyze the ethical implications of basing your personality assessment on the information available through the popular media. Select the theoretical approach you think best describes the person and elaborate on his or her personality using this approach.

Guided Response:  Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

  • Considering your colleague’s chosen person, was the theoretical approach he or she selected appropriate?
  • Suggest another perspective that might be used to assess this person, and provide a rationale as to why the perspective may be more effective.
  • Consider the ethical implications indicated by your colleague. Review the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct  and describe the issues present in assessing personality using only the information available in popular media.

Explain the role spirituality can play in identity development during adolescence.

Access and read the article “Daughter Spurs Shift in Gephardt’s View on Gays” in order to answer the following prompts in an essay (750-1,000 words), citing three to five sources in addition to the textbook to support your answers:

Think about what the family has gone through and the impact has been on all family members. Chrissy was an adult when she came out to her family as a lesbian, however research is showing more and more people are coming out as early as middle school and a vast majority end of high school.

  1. Explain the role spirituality can play in identity development during adolescence.  Explain how religious teen groups/programs can assist families dealing with identity development.  What about teens whose views on religion/spirituality differ from their parents/family?  What resources are available for them?
  2. What local resources are available in your area to help both teenagers and parents understand sexual development issues from a religious stance? As a  mental health worker, how can you utilize these resources?
  3. Access and read the GCU Statement on the Integration of Faith and Work. GCU believes that redemption as well as the restoration of all things comes through Christ Jesus. Therefore, GCU believes that the Christian worldview offers hope of restoration, not only for individuals, but also for families, communities. How could a mental health worker with the Christian worldview help a family dealing with mental health issues about sexual identity or orientation?

identify two treatment goals for your client and how the treatment approach you selected would facilitate meeting the identified goals.

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resource on your own before you bid. Main references come from Van Wormer, K., & Davis, D. R. (2018) and/or American Psychiatric Association. (2013). You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. APA format also requires headings. Use the prompt each week to guide your heading titles and organize the content of your initial post under the appropriate headings. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that is current. I have also attached my discussion rubric so you can see how to make full points. Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. I need this completed by 04/03/19 at 7pm.

Discussion – Week 6

Discussion: Treatment of Addiction

While there is considerable variation across strengths-based treatment models, all of them are bound by core characteristics: They “honor the principle of client self-determination, attend to the client’s stage of readiness, and focus on the resources and capabilities the client and client’s family may use to further their goals” (Van Wormer & Davis, 2018, p. 316). These are essential to the client’s motivation and engagement in treatment, and honor the client’s own role in recovery.

As you review the assigned readings this week, think about which strengths-based treatment approach resonates with you. How does it align with what you have learned thus far about the etiology of addiction? Consider how you will integrate this knowledge into your toolbox in your efforts to become a clinician skilled in working with substance-related and addictive disorders.

Group counseling is a popular approach to addiction treatment. Like individual treatment, it offers its own unique benefits to participants. Some individuals may be hesitant to participate in a group, as they may feel self-conscious or embarrassed by what they perceive as their weaknesses or failings. However, the camaraderie and support offered by group counseling often quickly dispels such fears, and participants may be surprised by how beneficial the group process is on their recovery efforts.

Therapy groups often meet once per week, though more frequent sessions may be utilized depending on circumstances and levels of care, and are led by a licensed professional. Groups may be open or closed, gender limited or integrated, or have other qualifying requirements that can help focus the group interactions, as well as support goals and cohesiveness.

For this Discussion, you will choose one of the case vignettes in your Resources this week and one of the four treatment approaches discussed in Chapter 8 of your text: harm reduction, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, or cognitive behavioral therapy.

Post by Day 4 an overview of the treatment approach you selected for your chosen case study and why. Then, describe one strength and one weakness of your selected treatment approach. Lastly, identify two treatment goals for your client and how the treatment approach you selected would facilitate meeting the identified goals. Include in your discussion considerations for group versus individual treatment. Then, discuss how group treatment can support both relapse prevention efforts and the continuum of care.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.
