Research Design and Data Collection

Research Design and Data Collection

Submit your response to the Submissions Area by the due date. Your response should be at least three pages in length.

Given the hypothesis high employee satisfaction is correlated with low employee absenteeism, address the following in your paper this week:

  • Identify the variables in this study. What are some extraneous variables that might impact your research? How would you control for extraneous variables?
  • Which research design would you use to study this hypothesis and why?
  • What data collection techniques would you use to study this hypothesis and why?
  • Assuming that you get a correlation of r = -.70, what does this tell you about the strength and direction of the correlation between satisfaction and absenteeism?
  • What are some potential problems you might encounter, and what strategies would you use to minimize these problems?
  • Use APA standards.

For this assignment and all Submissions assignments, you are required to cite, at a minimum, the online course and the textbook for the course.  Additional sources are welcome. Scholarly sourcesare preferred and can be found through Argosy University online library resources.  Please see the Library and Tutoring Services section under Course Home to use Argosy University online library resources.  Additional, non-scholarly sources from reputable Web and print sources are also acceptable. Where, or in what ways, can a researcher acquire information/data that can be used for a case study?

Case Study Paper Instructions

(Reviewed April 13, 2018)

There are many methods available for conducting research, one of which is a case study. The purpose of this assignment is for you to learn how to conduct and complete a case study.

Instructions: Answer the following four questions using current APA format throughout (including your title page, running head, author note, appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure, introductory statement, in-text citations, page numbers, levels of headings throughout the document, a conclusion statement, and consistency between your in-text citations and references). Use your course textbooks, including your Introduction to Research textbook and the Publication Manual, and at least two additional scholarly references. This assignment must have a title page, plus two to four pages of appropriate content, and a reference page. Give the answers to these questions in your own words and with your own explanation. Cite your sources in-text, and list your various sources as references on your references page.

This assignment is requiring level one headings for each of the questions. Create your own brief phrase for a properly-formatted level one heading for each question so as to be clear about which item you are answering. Your headings must not be simply copied/pasted from the questions. An acceptable heading must clearly capture the essence of each question. Headings are typically brief statements. Page 62 in your Publication Manual will remind you of how your level one headings should look. See various sections of your Publication Manual for details about all other requirements in this assignment.

1. What is a case study?

2. What are advantages and disadvantages of this approach?

3. What are some reasons for using a case study approach?

4. Where, or in what ways, can a researcher acquire information/data that can be used for a case study? In other words, what are some various sources for information that a researcher can use in a case study? Note: For question four, these are two ways of stating the same question; these are not two separate questions.

Describe how your topic could be applied in a work setting. In your description, be sure to mention the similarities and the differences you would expect in applying your topic to the real world.

As you learned in this unit, work settings are strongly linked to social interactions, perceptions, and decision-making. For this assignment, you will compose a reflection paper in which you will consider how topics studied in social psychology influence these concepts in the real world.

To complete your paper, first, pick a topic you previously learned about in this course. Then, address the following points.

§ Define your chosen topic as it was presented in the prior unit.

§ Describe how your topic could be applied in a work setting. In your description, be sure to mention the similarities and the differences you would expect in applying your topic to the real world.

§ Would your chosen topic be perceived as beneficial or detrimental if you were in the role of employee? Why?

§ How would your perspective on the topic change if you were in a nonpaid position, such as a volunteer or intern?

§ Think about the concepts of behavioral economics. What is a rational course of action to protect (if a detriment) or promote (if a benefit) yourself, as an individual employee? How does this compare to actions that protect or promote the company at large? How could you balance the two?

Your response should be at least two pages in length. You must use at least one source as a reference in your paper. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations. Please format your paper and all citations in accordance with APA guidelines.

explain how you think through and determine what is “right” and “wrong” (personally and professionally) in your own daily life

You are to write an ethical profile paper that recognizes the formative influence of your family, heroes, and personal style on you as an ethical professional. This paper will provide a profile of you in regards to your ethical and professional practice. You will be required to include information on who you are as an ethical professional, how this course has shaped your unique ethical decision-making style, and the areas in which you feel still need further development.

Include the following four sections in your paper:

  1. Ethical Autobiography: First, explain how you think through and determine what is “right” and “wrong” (personally and professionally) in your own daily life. Second, identify four examples of ethical behaviors and explain how your cultural heritage has shaped your values. Third, describe the nature of the four ethical behaviors you see in yourself.
  2. Professional/Ethical Hero: First, identify an ethical “hero,” an individual that has most impressed you and serves as your role model because of their professional/ethical presence (i.e., sensitivity, appropriate boundaries, and respect for privacy, ethical commitment, and ethical courage). Elaborate on his or her ethical characteristics. Discuss how this person can (or does) serve as a role model for others in the helping profession. Second, describe how this “hero” has influenced your value system. Clickhere to read an article on ethical hero.
  3. Ethical Decision-Making Style: This section will articulate your implicit style in terms of ethical decision making. Although there are specific models that help facilitate ethical decision making, everyone has his or her own unique style. Taking into consideration the ethical decision-making models presented in this course, identify the style that reflects your early and ongoing experiences with moral values and issues that has been influenced and shaped by your parents, relatives, peers, and valued adults in your life, such as a teacher or coach. Use what you have written from your autobiography to supplement this discussion. In summary, explain your implicit ethical decision-making style, including how this course and your cultural heritage have served as influential factors.
  4. Professional and Ethical Development: Ethical development is, for most, a career-long process. In the last section of your paper, please identify at least two areas discussed in this module/course where you feel you would benefit from more development. Lastly, suggest ways in which you can acquire your further development.

Please include information from two or more external scholarly references using APA formatting for all citations.

Your paper should be approximately 6–8 pages in length, be double-spaced, in 12 point, Times New Roman font with normal 1” margins; be written in APA style; and be free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page with a running head, an abstract, and a reference page.

Save the paper as AU_PSY430_M5_A1_LastName_FirstInitial.doc and submit it to the M5 Assignment 1 LASA 2 Dropbox by Monday, August 15, 2016.
