How and why Korean immigrants came to be the most entrepreneurial ethnicity?

The following are questions to encourage you to think about your assigned readings (and lecture). Your essays should reflect, insofar as possible, your own ideas, analyses, etc. You should rely primarily on the works assigned in class. Do not forget to make references wherever appropriate. What are key differences between ways structural-functional theorists, social-conflict theorists, and symbolic-Interactionist theorists examine and explain society?

1) Arty Fischel is a college student. He was a good student in high school and received a sizable scholarship to go to college. That scholarship, however, does not cover all of Arty’s expenses. Arty now must take out a sizeable loan each year of college for his school expenses. Is this only a personal problem for Arty? Apply the sociological imagination and explain some possible broad social forces that could be contributing to Arty’s struggles.

Should we put more emphasis on personal accountability in an environment that is dominated by social justice movements?

According to Creswell (2009), quantitative research is a “means for  testing objective theories by examining the relationship among variables  that can be measured and analyzed using statistical procedures.”  Qualitative research, Creswell posits, is a “means for exploring and  understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to social or  human problems.”
Consider the phenomenon of pain. Ethics committees and  institutional review boards do not allow researchers to inflict equal  doses of pain on subjects to examine their physiological response. In  quantitative research, pain can be measured physiologically by blood  pressure, changes in blood chemistry, muscle contractions, and pain  scales (which are still subjective, but at least quantifiable).  Researchers using a qualitative perspective may ask participants about  their experience of being in physical pain, whether being in pain has  changed them in any way, or what they have learned from experiencing  physical pain.
For this Assignment, consider differences in how you might  frame a research question in order to explore it using quantitative or  qualitative research methods.

Submit a 2 1/2 page paper that highlights one  of the research questions you shared in your Discussion post. Design a  quantitative research question related to this problem and a qualitative  research question related to the same problem.   Below is the question you will use

Should we put more emphasis on personal accountability in an environment that is dominated by social justice movements? (based on sexual assault?)

Explain the ways patient–provider communications might be improved.

The initial steps of the Generalist Intervention Model support engagement and building of rapport between a patient and a social worker. Medical social workers are trained to be effective listeners and communicators. Given their unique skills, medical social workers are often called upon to support and navigate the relationships between patients and other providers on the health care team as advocates, liaisons, and mediators.

To prepare for this Discussion:
Consider patient–provider communications as an integral part of delivering social work services to patients. Review this week’s resources and think about how to deliver effective communications within the patient–provider relationship.

Post a description of the importance of patient–provider communication. Be sure to address the relationship between patient–provider communications and illness outcomes. Identify a minimum of three factors that might lead to poor patient–provider communications. Provide your rationale. Explain the ways patient–provider communications might be improved. Then, explain the role culture plays in patient–provider communications. Finally, explain the roles of a social worker in assisting a patient to improve communications with other members of the health care team.
