Explain, in your own words, what each word means and how it is used in the context of learning and cognition.

Prior to beginning this discussion, select a peer-reviewed, scholarly article from the Ashford University Library on a particular aspect of language acquisition studied from a psychological perspective.

  • Part 1: As you were reading this week, what vocabulary was used that was unfamiliar to you or might be to your peers? Identify three to five words from this week’s content and research each word in the context of learning and cognition. Explain, in your own words, what each word means and how it is used in the context of learning and cognition.
  • Part 2: Based on the week’s discourse and content, you will access the Ashford University Library and research one scholarly article pertaining to language acquisition published within the last ten years. Provide a summary explanation of the findings in the context of your article. What implications should scholars consider based on this information? Support your explanation utilizing your course sources and your researched article. (article attached below)
  • Part 3: Consider the events from the past week of your life. How does the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively affect our behaviors, actions, and knowledge development? Describe one personal real-life example of an occurrence that indicates the possible consequences when language acquisition is not well-developed or when language development creates boundaries, such as educational or employment opportunities. As you share this information, consider and apply the professional standards found in the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.

Your initial post should be at least 500 words in length and should establish your understanding of the content, apply appropriate methods of ethical practices, and exhibit appropriate scaffolding of personal experience to the week’s content.

Discuss the following steps with your supervisor: · Without violating confidentiality, provide background information on your subject (or group/situation), including behaviors observed, any medical information that is available, socio-cultural factors that might affect treatment, etc.

The purpose of Case Study 1 is to provide an opportunity to demonstrate course-related knowledge in speaking more “deeply” about 1 specific client. Your case study will identify specific behaviors and how those behaviors are evaluated in light of a specific theory. You will also identify ways that specific behaviors can be addressed in a manner consistent with the theories of your field. (For research-oriented internships, you will identify specific variables being studied and provide rationale for the study.)

With explicit permission from your site supervisor, choose a case, circumstance, or situation at your site. If an appropriate case cannot be obtained from your site, then you may complete a case study on a historical or fictional character. You will need explicit permission from your instructor to use a historical or fictional character.

Discuss the following steps with your supervisor:

· Without violating confidentiality, provide background information on your subject (or group/situation), including behaviors observed, any medical information that is available, socio-cultural factors that might affect treatment, etc.

· Provide information about current behaviors, specifically maladaptive behaviors, and current treatment plans/progress.

· Using knowledge gained in your study of psychology in general and/or your cognate in particular, provide a brief theoretical explanation of your case.

Using knowledge gained in your study of psychology in general and/or your cognate in particular, identify a treatment plan detailing how you would continue to work with this case. (This treatment plan may be hypothetical.)

The paper must fulfil the following criteria:

· 3–4 pages

· Current APA format

· This document must maintain the strictest level of confidentiality.

Refer to the provided Case Study 1 Grading Rubric for specific grading criteria

Assess the impact of media coverage of the case on the judicial process. For instance, how did the news media shape public perception of the case?

This assignment will assist you to create a draft of the Causes of Controversy and Reaction to Controversy portions of your final project.

As you complete this milestone, consider the following issues:

Media Coverage: Assess the impact of media coverage of the case on the judicial process. For instance, how did the news media shape public perception of the case? How did this, in turn, affect the court proceedings? Or, how did the selection of photographs and videos used by the media impact public opinion and the judicial process?

Fairness: Assess the fairness of the administration of the judicial process in your case. In other words, how fair and equitable was the judicial process? Why did the judicial process cause such a controversy?

Reaction Explanation: Explain the reaction by the criminal justice court system, the media, and local, state, or national politicians to the perceived equality of the judicial process, supporting your response with specific examples. For instance, were politicians acting in a way that caused bias? Did local media provide objective coverage of the case? Did national media demonstrate sufficient, in-depth knowledge of the facts?

Reaction Defense: Justify, with evidence, the appropriateness and effectiveness of the court system’s reaction to the controversy during the trial. Ensure that you communicate your justification clearly and effectively.

Alternatives Explanation: How could the court system have responded more appropriately and effectively to the controversy during and after the trial? In other words, what alternative courses of direction could the court system have taken? How could the judicial system have worked in a more fair and ethical way?

Alternatives Defense: Defend, with evidence, your conclusions about how the court system could have taken an alternative course of direction that might have remedied the situation more appropriately and effectively. Ensure that you communicate your defense clearly and effectively.

What are some specific strategies that you would suggest for supporting a young person who is experiencing an identity crisis?

Most of us have asked ourselves the question “Who am I?” at one point or another in our lives. The authors of our textbook discuss the difficulties teenagers face in establishing their own identity (Coon & Mitterer, 2016). They state, “Many problems stem from the unclear standards about the role adolescents should play within society” (p. 110). Our text also explains that teenagers experience “ambiguity,” or unclear interpretations, when defining their roles. This adds to their confusion of a clear and solid sense of self.

More often we are seeing cases presented in the media about teens who have taken their own lives as a result of bullying. Sadly, “Between 1950 and 1990, suicide rates for adolescents and young adults doubled” (Durand & Barlow as cited in Coon and Mitterer, 2016, p. 480). This emphasizes Coon & Mitterers’ statement that “In many ways adolescence and young adulthood are more emotionally turbulent than midlife or old age” (p. 111). Do you agree or disagree?

For this week’s main post, answer the following questions. Be sure to include factual, properly cited information in your post.

What are some specific strategies that you would suggest for supporting a young person who is experiencing an identity crisis?  Consider Kohlberg’s levels of moral development, Gilligan’s ethic of caring and justice, and Erikson’s psychosocial theory when considering the way a teenager thinks.  Why do you think a teenager would resort to attempting or committing suicide due to a bullying incident?
