Part A: Review the Case

A college counselor for a large university helps students select careers matched to their personalities. She uses computer administered personality tests as the primary source of information. The counselor uses the assessment with all students who seek counseling.

Part B: Case Analysis

In a 5-6 page paper, addressing the following information:

2. Identify and explain 3 factors that impact performance on objective tests.

3. Identify and discuss 3 reliability and validity concerns with the scenario.

4.  Identify and explain at least 3 ethical concerns as per the APA Ethical Codes and how you would resolve the concerns.

Integrate academic sources on psychological assessment to support your position.

Please ensure that your paper is in APA format, using 12 pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with a title and references page. An abstract is not necessary. The paper should integrate 5-6 scholarly resources.

In this assignment, you will write an essay about the research methods and ethical implications of a social psychology study. You will get information about the study from one of the entries in the SPARQ “Solutions Catalog”, which is a web site maintained by Stanford University at https://sparq.stanford.edu/solutions?&&. SPARQ is an acronym for “Social Psychological Answers to Real-world Questions.” Each entry in the Solutions Catalog names a problem, and then offers a solution to that problem, based on a research study in social psychology

To keep this assignment short and manageable, your only sources for this assignment should be from the SPARQ site and your course materials, such as your textbook. There is no need for you to cite any of the course materials. Therefore, no additional citations or references are needed, beyond those from the SPARQ site

In this exercise, you will choose one of the entries in the SPARC site, and then write a two to three (2-3) page paper that meets the following requirements.

Avoiding Counselor Impairment

Burnout is a major concern for clinical mental health counseling professionals and it can lead to both professional and personal issues for counselors. It can start with counselors taking on trauma, stress, and an unrealistic belief that they alone are responsible for their clients’ wellness. There are numerous factors in a counselor’s work that might lead to burnout including: secondary stress and vicarious trauma, expanded roles and responsibilities, poor supervision, and lack of the specific tools necessary to perform the job.

Counseling, by its very nature, is stressful work. This stress, if not monitored and addressed, can lead to counselor impairment. The profession acknowledges this by ethically obligating counselors to be mindful not only of their own states of mind, but their colleagues’ health as well.

For this Discussion, review the Counselor Impairment media and consider ethics related to counselor impairment. Examine signs of counselor impairment and the potential impact this may have on clients.

Post by Day 3 a brief description of the codes of ethics related to counselor impairment. Then explain at least two signs of counselor impairment. Finally, propose a scenario using one of the signs of counselor impairment you identified that elicited a negative effect on client treatment. Suggest a solution for remedying the situation and justify your solution.

What ideas or phrases come to mind when you hear the term intelligence? Prior to the current emphasis on emotional and social intelligence, individuals tended to associate intelligence with one measurement: intelligence quotient or the IQ. While the IQ focuses on intellectual abilities, emotional intelligence focuses on an individual’s awareness of his or her feelings and the feelings of others, and social intelligence focuses on an individual’s interpersonal skills (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016, pp. 506-509).

To prepare for this Discussion, read “Working With People With Disabilities: The Case of Andres” on pages 28–31 in Social Work Case Studies: Foundation Year. Consider what you have learned about social and emotional intelligence in this week’s resources as well as what you learn about the person and environment as it relates to young and middle adulthood.
