What were the findings of the researchers?  Although you are not expected to interpret advanced statistics, it is reasonable that you understand the summative statements in the section.

Students are to write a multi-paragraph summary (at least two pages) based on the different parts of the article (see below for more detailed information).

Papers should include individual paragraphs based on the following headings

I. Introduction- An introductory paragraph introduces the reader to the topic of your paper and states the thesis of the research. For the purpose of this assignment, the introductory paragraph should describe the research topic presented within the selected article as well as the main points discussed throughout the article.

II. Rationale- Trace the logical reasons for this research based upon the findings of previous research.  In other words, what prior findings discussed in the selected article led the researchers to the current experiment?  For example, if researchers wanted to do a study about a new medication to be given to children, then part of the rationale (e.g. reasoning) might be that no one has researched the medication on children before.  Another possibility could be that the medications currently used with children have been found to have serious side effects.

III. Methods- Describe the subjects, procedures, and measurement tools used in the study.

IV. Results- What were the findings of the researchers?  Although you are not expected to interpret advanced statistics, it is reasonable that you understand the summative statements in the section.

V. Discussion/Conclusion- What does the experimental evidence add to the existing knowledge?  How did the authors critique their own research?

VI. Critical Thinking- In what ways do the research findings fit with the content you have learned in Human Growth and Development?  How might the evidence impact people during their lives?  How does this research apply to diversity (e.g., age, gender, race, ethnicity, and/or religion)?

VII. REFERENCES: Papers should include a reference page with the article citation.

Your paper should be written in American Psychological Association (APA) format.  It is not necessary to write an abstract for this assignment.  You may access the APA Style for College Papers athttp://www.docstyles.com/apacrib.htm.

NOT MORE THAN TWO PAGES FOR EACH ARTICLE WITH THESE HEADINGS… Introduction, Rationale, Methods, Results, Discussion/Conclusion, Critical Thinking, References.

While you are expected to support your ideas with evidence from the professional literature, it is understood that you are beginning a new professional journey, and there may be some areas in which research alone cannot determine your personal direction. Acknowledge any uncertainty in your personal direction, and challenge yourself to express the reasons for that uncertainty.

Directions

Organize your paper into the following five topic areas:

  • Specialization within the field of counseling: State your specialization and explain how your role differs from counselors in other specializations. Take time to define, as specifically as possible, the areas in which you would like to focus your practice.
  • Counseling philosophy: As a counselor-in-training, describe how you integrate the concepts of wellness, resilience, and prevention into your approach in your identified specialization. Dig deeper, and explain the assumptions you are making that help you see a connection between counseling theory and your practice.
  • Licensing and certification: Describe what you have learned about state licensure and certification requirements for your specialization and explain how your coursework plan aligns with these requirements. Identify any areas in which you have found a state requirement that you are not certain will be met by your coursework, and describe how you will take action to resolve this uncertainty.
  • Ongoing professional development: Compare and contrast two professional counseling associations, and assess how these organizations can help you conceptualize your professional identity, and assist you in continuing professional development. Be specific about your areas of interest, and provide examples of ways in which these associations can assist you.
  • Impact of technology: Evaluate how technology might affect your clinical specialization, including assisting you in creating more efficient formats to help your clients, as well as raising ethical questions for you. As in other areas of the paper, provide specific examples.

In each case, support your ideas with evidence from professional literature, including the assigned articles and those you found related to professional identity, key philosophies, and technology within counseling. Include what you learned from your Internet research on state licensure or certification requirements.

Given the personal focus of this paper, it is appropriate to write in the first person (using the words I, me, and my, for example).

Review the scoring guide given in the resources to make sure you understand how this assignment will be graded.

Based on the daughter’s age, does the mother have a right to not disclose the diagnosis to her daughter?

You are a consulting psychologist for a local clinic and have been asked to follow up on a consultation you completed four years ago. There are current developments in this case that require further consideration. Please review the PSY699 Week Five discussion case file (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. or detailed information on the current case under review.

In your initial post, explain how the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in this ethically complex situation. Provide a suggested course of action for the clinic staff. Given the daughter’s age and the situation presented, integrate concepts developed from different psychological content domains to support your suggested course of action. Be certain to use evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to support your arguments. You may wish to consider the following questions as you construct your post.

  • 1. Should the staff encourage the daughter to inform her mother that she is sexually active?
  • 2. Would knowledge regarding her daughter’s sexual activity influence the mother’s stance regarding disclosure?
  • 3. Should the staff break confidentiality and inform the mother that her daughter is sexually active?
  • 4. Should the staff encourage the mother to inform the daughter of both her and her daughter’s HIV status?
  • 5. Does the daughter’s boyfriend have any rights in this situation? If so, what are they?
  • 6. Based on the daughter’s age, does the mother have a right to not disclose the diagnosis to her daughter?
  • 7. Does the mother have a right to the privacy regarding her own diagnosis, which could be threatened if her daughter learns of her own status?
  • 8. Are there other approaches the staff can take? If so, what are they?
  • 9. Is further information required in order for you to create an ethically sound suggested course of action?

Describe the situation and the individual’s behavior in the case scenario.

Have you ever behaved in a way that went against a belief or value that you have? Why did this happen? What influenced your behavior in that moment? When we understand our own reasons for going against our beliefs or values, we are better able to understand how this may happen with offenders. This assignment asks you to apply attribution theory and cognitive dissonance theory to a situation in which this type of behavior may occur with offenders, and how that may influence their rehabilitative process.

Create a brief case scenario of a situation in which an offender made a decision to engage in a behavior that violated his or her values, beliefs, attitudes, or morals.

Create a 10- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation in which you analyze your case scenario. Include the following:

  • Describe the situation and the individual’s behavior in the case scenario.
  • Analyze the possible explanations for the individual’s behavior using attribution theory.
  • Describe the relationship between behavior and attitudes in this situation.
  • Explain how cognitive dissonance theory applies to this situation, and how it may influence recidivism.
  • Describe how this offender’s attitude and behavior may influence the efficacy of the support services delivered.

Include at least three references.

Include detailed speaker notes for each slide.

Format any citations in your presentation according to APA guidelines.
