Analysis of an Environmental Disaster

Analysis of an Environmental Disaster

INTRUSTIONS:
Recent environmental disasters have significantly impacted the human population in multiple ways. In this assignment, you will identify a recent environmental disaster and discuss potential correlated health impacts.
Begin this assignment by identifying one recent example of an environmental disaster. For example, the BP oil spill or the earthquakes in Haiti or Japan.

Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online resources, and the Internet, write a research paper including the following:
• Provide a description of the environmental event/disaster you have identified.

Include the following points:
o Consider if the event was caused by humans or natural.
o Examine the direct and indirect impact on immediate- and long-term public health.
o Identify data regarding mortality and/or morbidity outcomes, if available.
o Explain the geographical impact with respect to health. Also consider the number of lives lost, environmental damage, economic fallout, and long-term repercussions or impact.
o Examine the research on the likelihood of this event recurring.
• Identify and describe the immediate- and long-term emergency response plans and efforts to the disaster you have selected. Be sure to identify which groups, organizations, and/or governments led or are leading the response efforts and the various players who participated or are participating in this response.
• Examine the lessons learned from previous responses to similar disasters. List at least three recommendations for protecting public health from a recurrence and/or the aftermath of similar disasters in the future.
Be sure to use a minimum of four external, peer-reviewed journal articles or reliable Internet resources.

Write a 2-3page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Select a health care organization in your community to conduct an interview with an appropriate risk management employee.

Select a health care organization in your community to conduct an interview with an appropriate risk management employee. The organization can be your current employer, or a different health care facility in your community. Acute care, urgent care, large multi-provider private medical clinics, assisted living facilities, and community/public health clinical facilities are all ideal options to complete the requirements of this assignment. Make sure to select an individual who can provide sufficient information regarding how that organization manages risk within its facility to answer the questions below.
In your interview, address the following:
1. Identification of the challenges the organization faces in controlling infectious diseases.
2. Risk management strategies used in the organization’s infection control program, along with specific examples.
3. How the facility’s educational risk management program addresses key professional issues, such as prevention of negligence, malpractice litigation, and vicarious liability.
4. Policies the facility has implemented that address managing emergency triage in high-risk areas of health care service delivery.
5. Strategies the facility utilizes to monitor and maintain its risk management program.
Post-interview, compose a 750-1,000 word summary analysis of the interview to include the questions above as well as the following elements:
1. A brief assessment of the organization’s risk management program, including what works well and what could work better (the pros and cons).
2. Action steps you would take to improve the program. Select one area and provide your rationale and possible steps required to implement your suggestion.

Have America’s wars since WWII been fought to protect and secure the health and welfare of average citizen’s? If yes, in what ways? If no, why were they fought?

Answer both of the following questions in 2.5 to 3 pages each.

The essays should be double spaced in 12 point Times New Roman font.

They must include references to all of the assigned readings
and only
assigned readings. Again, use Foner, Zinn, and lectures
only. (I will not read the essay if it employs outside sources. The purpose of the essays is to determine whether you’ve read the assigned readings, viewed lectures, and understood the material as presented.)

You must cite at least three primary documents from Zinn for each essay.
Explain in few sentences at the end of the essay why you chose these
documents.

Begin with a strong thesis statement followed by relevant evidence from
the readings and lecture. Cite Foner as (Foner pg.#); cite the Zinn
documents by the author of the document of title if the author is
anonymous, for example (Ginsburg 42); and cite the presentations/lectures
as Colling + lecture/slide #, e.g. (Colling 5/42).

Important! Combine both essays into a single document.
Questions:
1. Have America’s wars since WWII been fought to protect and secure the
health and welfare of average citizen’s? If yes, in what ways? If no, why
were they fought?

2. Given the American promise, did the United States fulfill this promise from
the ratification of the Reconstruction Amendments to the present day? If
yes, how? If not, why?
