You have been selected to write a 10-12 page APA formatted academic research paper showcasing your knowledge of childhood disorders as it relates to your mock classroom or creating a public policy on youth programming that addresses the needs of youth living with a particular disorder.
Step 1: Choose Grade
Describe your classroom grade/target age group and the typical milestones/tasks associated with that age group. Consider other demographic information as well.
Step 2: Choose a Disorder
Choose a disorder that is listed in the DSM-V you want to learn more about through this research project. Find 4 peer review articles about that disorder, treatments, causes, etc. Start writing about the general causes, symptoms and treatments of that disorder.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 4 OR MORE PEER REVIEW ARTICLES CITED IN YOUR PAPER.
Step 3: Choose a Mock Student
Choose a fictional or famous character (Lisa Simpson, Dora the Explorer, Doc McStuffin, one of the muppet babies, Marlon Wayans, etc.), their age, behavior, family dynamics, etc. Describe the mock student/youth as they are in your classroom/community
Step 4: Diagnose and Treat Mock Student
Using the DSM, diagnose the mock student/youth based on his or her classroom/social interactions. Provide the symptoms and then provide a treatment plan for the student. Make sure to include the specific Causes, Symptoms and Treatments.
Step 5: Create a Plan
As part of his or her diagnosis, create a classroom environment/community program, structure, and schedule that supports the treatment plan.
