The purpose of this assignment is to help you to understand how to evaluate a test in terms of the quality of its psychometric characteristics in the context of its intended use. This process will involve the consultation of specific academic resources about psychological tests and also description of findings from recent empirical studies in which a particular test was used. Specifically: (a) You are to select a psychological construct that interests you; (b) Define this construct, and its main components (dimensions) based on the available research literature; (c) Identify two main questionnaires available to assess this construct; (d) Summarize empirical results in relation to the psychometric strengths and weaknesses of both measures (ideally, this section should include a minimum of 4 published studies, including at least one per test); and (e) Use your own judgment to present the practical strengths and weaknesses of both measures. A few constructs and types of tests are not allowed for this assignment: (1) global “personality”; (2) Intelligence; (3) Projective tests and constructs; (4) Any observational measure; (5) Interviews (structured or not); (6) neuropsychological or physiological measures. The grade for your paper will be based on (a) the quality and clarity of your writing; (b) the thoroughness of your description of the published test critique and related empirical studies about that test; (c) the accuracy of your citations and references; and (d) whether the proper format was used throughout your whole paper. Length, Format, & Submission The length of the text of the final version of your term paper will be no more than 8 pages. This maximum length does not include the cover page or reference list.
