Students will write a 7 – 8 page paper (not including your cover page and your references page) that addresses a specific issue in child advocacy. Choose an issue/topic that you are particularly interested in and/or passionate about that is related to child advocacy. This could be an issue that you have addressed in previous courses, or one that you know little about. You must include at least 7 peer-reviewed journal articles in your paper. You must include recent research – published in the last 15 years (2003-2018). You may include one older source (prior to 2003), but it should be in addition to the 7 required peer-reviewed journal articles. For statistics, you should you use only government websites (i.e. .gov). You should not include information from any other websites, as many are not scholarly in nature. For my advocacy paper I would like to write about the issue of LGBTQ youth entering the juvenile justice system. LGBTQ youth are overrepresented in the system, particularly LGBTQ youth of color.
