Overview

This course is designed to teach you the process of diagnosing and the differentiating signs and symptoms of the diagnoses according to the DSM-5, which you must know in order to pass the exam for your state license. You will also need these skills as you move into practicum, internship and work towards your license. Diagnosis drives a good portion of treatment, and so understanding common disorders is important. This research paper will provide you the opportunity to deepen your understanding of one diagnosis of your choosing.

 

Instructions

You will write a paper on a chosen DSM-5 category topic approved by your instructor. The content of your paper must address the following, using the following heading to organize the paper:

1. Overview: A succinct overview of all the disorders in this DSM-5 category. You will not copy and paste from the DSM-5—this information must be evaluated and reworded into your own words.

2. Developmental and Prognosis Factors: Potential causes of these disorders (think nature and nurture both in this section: genetics, heredity, environment, and spiritual)- include the biological, neurological, and physiological factors that affect human development, functioning, and behavior; address systemic and environmental factors that affect human development, functioning, and behavior

3. Assessment: What processes would be used to evaluate for disorders in this category

4. Treatment: Treatment options for these disorders to include ethical and culturally relevant strategies for establishing and maintaining in-person and technology-assisted relationships; and identification of evidence-based counseling practices.

5. Christian worldview: A biblical perspective of these disorders and their treatment. You must examine the research topic from a biblical worldview, demonstrating critical thinking. You may need to use biblical word studies and biblical commentaries to support your work.

6. Future research considerations: Future research considerations for disorders in this category to include evidence-based counseling strategies and techniques for prevention and intervention

 

The paper will be 10–12 pages (not including the title page, abstract, or reference pages) in the current APA format.
