Provide a response to each discussion point. Discussion 1 – Here are five considerations for having a cloud-based disaster recovery. The first area is the flexibility and reduced downtime that cloud-based can bring to the table. With cloud-based, you have the ability to continue to run your org from the cloud and restore your critical data and systems from any location. A cloud-based setup allows you to get the program back up and running, minimizing the manual portion of a traditional recovery process. The second key consideration is the reliability of a cloud-based system. Having a cloud-based setup can help allow for frequent and uninterrupted testing of IT disaster recovery efforts. This means companies are able to test out their plan of actions without having any degradations or company downtown to do so. The third benefit when using this type of technology is the simplification and efficiency of being able to deploy your environment to all locations that are affected. With cloud computing being available if your team has a connection allows for your company to be able to access information at a fast rate. The fourth area of benefit is how easy it is to deploy these environments. Since companies use cloud-based solutions, they are able to have the company help them with the deployment and give a basic understanding for companies to use. Allowing companies to focus on other areas of development while the cloud company can provide the basic functions for it to run. The last area of benefit is cost effectiveness. The organizations that are using cloud-based are able to take advantage of the common pay-as-you-grow model, allowing the company to align funds to take care of other IT disaster recovery needs. While these items are some of the benefits that come to mind, there are some disadvantages as well
Discussion 2 – Cloud computing allows small to large businesses to access business resources and upgrade their capabilities at a reduction in cost, which is always a need of any company. What fuels this capability is the sharing of resources and requirements by venders, or application owners that thrive in this technology, which decreases the local footprint and resource management needs. Examples of companies that are leading the industry in cloud computing are Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo.
Business continuity is supported via cloud computing as it broadens a businesses capability to restore, recover, survive, or thwart many risks and vulnerabilities that are both inherent (ever present to a networked environment). Additionally, cloud computing supports the survivability of business against malicious activity. (Biswas, 2018). A company’s disaster recovery strategy/plan in tandem with business continuity needs by ensuring backup databases, hosts, and applications are able to be access when the adverse strikes; ensuring Business continuity
Discussion 3 – While cloud computing seems like a perfect way to circumvent impacts of disasters, there can be some potential drawbacks. Some of the drawbacks can be solved by developing a plan of communication. Such as when a disaster happens, the individuals, teams, and departments need to be able to have a flow of communication and an understanding of expectations during an emergency. Another potential issue that needs to be thought out is the storage of large amounts of data. Large organizations have deals with various entities that might produce large amounts of data that is important for a business to operate. It’s important for organizations to develop a plan to handle large amounts of various types of data and store it within cost. And finally, location, location, location. Doing research into where the data centers are is very important. Data Servers can provide the best technology in the world to provide for your needs, but if its the middle of tornado alley or earthquake central, that might be an issue. Also when dealing with location, if you you choose a site in another country, there may be certain laws and regulations you have to consider. Its important for organizations to understand where their data storage center is and if they might be breaking international law.
