My first paper in the course “The problem of Antisemitism” will be due on Tuesday, February 7, at 7 p.m. It should be at least 1500 words long and based on only ONE of the possible six essay questions. On the attachment sheet that I have included, there are 6 essay questions to chose from, but I have already selected question 4. The essay question to be answered is, “What argument is made regarding the relationship of Jesus’ mission to the Law as it was already practiced by the Jewish population? What role is to be played by the Gentiles? You may focus on one text or provide a comparison.” Some possible texts to read and to include in the citation are, (The Gospels of Mark, Matthew, and John, Chrysostom’s Adversus Judaeos, or Augustine’s Adversus Judaeos). You can include whatever else you deem fit. The paper will be evaluated on the depth of your engagement with the text, the clarity of your argument, and the effectiveness of your writing. You should have a strong and prominent thesis, and you should support that thesis with carefully chosen evidence from the text. Be sure to cite your sources.
