Discuss the purposes of each, and how teachers and trainers use them in practical settings

In this assignment, you will compare and contrast assessment and evaluation. You must complete the following:

  • Give an example, from classroom or online applications other than this course, of assessment, then compare and contrast that with an example of evaluation. Discuss the defining characteristics of each type, assessment and evaluation, and ways in which teachers and trainers use each one in instructional design and delivery.
  • Give examples of formative and summative assessment and discuss similarities and differences. Discuss the purposes of each type of assessment, during the instructional design process and during the delivery process.
  • Using examples, discuss similarities and differences between formative evaluation and summative evaluation. Discuss the purposes of each, and how teachers and trainers use them in practical settings. How are these two types used in the instructional design process? How are they used, and what issues can they help the instructor avoid or resolve during the delivery process? Provide examples to illustrate.

Use peer-reviewed academic sources to support your thoughts and ideas. Do not just give answers from the sources. To demonstrate your understanding, answer the questions in your own words and using sources as backup to justify your ideas. The paper must be completed in APA manuscript format.

Why Educators Should Conduct Research

Week 6 – Discussion 1

No unread replies.11 reply.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

 Why Educators Should Conduct Research

Your written response to this discussion prompt is your time to reflect on the action research cycle. This discussion also supports your achievement of Course Learning Outcome 4.

Educators need to conduct research in order to make effective decisions about student learning and student achievement. In addition, teachers must be reflective about their practice in order to make appropriate changes and accommodations, especially for diverse student populations.

*Note: there are two parts to this discussion.

Initial Post: Post an initial response that addresses the following areas:

Part A:
Read the following articles about being a reflective practitioner:

  • “The articulated learning: An approach to guided reflection and assessment”
  • “The Role of Reflection in the Differentiated Instructional Process” (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Using information you gathered from the articles, provide an analysis of the following questions:

  • What does it mean to be a reflective practitioner?
  • Why should teachers be reflective?
  • How would you describe yourself in regard to being a reflective practitioner?

Part B:
Provide an evaluation of this question from Barth (as cited in the Phelps, 2008): “How much are you prepared to risk of what is familiar, comfortable, safe, and perhaps working well for you, in the name of better education for others?” (p. 122). Reflect on current practices and how you can be a reflective change agent. Think about the following questions:

  • How will you use research to improve your practice in order to facilitate student achievement?
  • What two areas of practice in your educational environment do you think need researching and why?

Guided Response: After reviewing the initial posts, substantively reply to at least two peers. Asking clarifying questions and sharing personal experiences are excellent methods of extending the discussion.

Though two replies are the basic expectation, for deeper engagement and application of the material, you are encouraged to provide responses to any comments or questions others have given to you (including your instructor) before Day 7. This ongoing engagement in the discussion will deepen the conversation while providing opportunities to demonstrate your content expertise, critical thinking, and real-world experiences with this topic.

he Evolution of Greek Sculpture

Question 1. The Evolution of Greek Sculpture

As we learned this week, sculptors in Ancient Greece strove to achieve perfection in the works of art they created. Carefully examine the following sculptures and read about each one in your textbook, course and video lectures, and through reliable internet resources:

Peplos Kore, from the Acropolis, Athens, c. 530 BCE
Warrior, found in the sea off Riace, Italy, c. 460-450 BCE
Hagesandros, Polydoros, and Athanadoros of Rhodes, Laocoön and His Sons, 2nd-1st c BCE

Then, in a minimum of 2 well-developed paragraphs, answer the following questions:

  • What specific visual similarities do you observe in these three sculptures?
  • What specific differences do you see? Consider the representation of the figure, facial expression or suggested emotion, additional objects portrayed, and the role of the viewer for each sculpture.
  • How is each sculpture representative of the period in Ancient Greece (e.g., Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic) in which it was created?

Be sure to explain your ideas clearly and support them by discussing specific details about each sculpture.

Question 2. Religious Symbolism

This week, we studied cultures that recognized a pantheon of gods and goddesses, such as Ancient Greece and Rome, and also explored the early artistic objects of the Jewish and Christian faiths.

Carefully examine the following sculptures and read about each one in your textbook, course and video lectures, and through reliable internet resources:

Initiation Rites of the Cult of Bacchus, wall painting in the Villa of the Mysteries, Pompeii, c. 50 BCE
Ark of the Covenant and Menorahs, wall painting in a Jewish catacomb, Villa Torlonia, Rome, 3rd c CE
The Transfiguration of Christ, Church of Sant’ Apollinare in Classe, 533-549 CE

Then, in a minimum of 3 well-developed paragraphs, address the following questions:

  1. What is the subject matter shown in each work?
  2. What is the belief system or faith represented in each work?
  3. What religious symbols do you observe in each work?
  4. How would the setting of each work have influenced how the contemporary viewer interpreted or understood its meaning?

Be sure to provide citations for any outside sources you reference in this part of your response.
