Purpose

Nursing educators in all practice settings need to understand of the importance of outreach to underserved or underrepresented populations to increase their presence in the nursing profession and within their communities. Social determinants of health may present challenges to entering the healthcare field for potential students.

Directions

For this assignment, the dean of a nursing program and vice president of nursing at a local hospital have come to you to develop a pipeline program to increase nursing students from underserved or underrepresented populations. You have been asked to explore options and strategies for outreach and recruitment measures that would benefit potential students to your pipeline program who may not have a full understanding of the benefits of a career in nursing.
