How might Infosys have used such tactics in the case study?

Project: Successful Strategies

This week read the More Meetings and Cost Estimate Negotiations and Problems Executing the Project section of the case study provided in W1 Project Instructions. Also review all discussion questions provided at the end of the case study document.
Based on the assigned sections (and all previous assigned sections of the case study), address the following topics:

· Overcoming Resource Disadvantage

o What tactics can a financially disadvantaged negotiator use to be treated on par with large organizations when their assets and resources are not as large?

o How might Infosys have used such tactics in the case study?

· Using Resource Application

o How can an effective negotiator use resource application in terms of written material, appropriate gifts, time expectations, and political or economic considerations such as innovation and risk to “even the playing field”?

o How might Infosys have used such resource application?

· Strategies for Negotiation Stages

o Negotiation can often be divided into four stages including preparation, information exchange, bargaining, and closure. Defend action steps Infosys should have taken in each stage of the negotiation case study.

· Non-Winner Perceptions

o In a negotiation, it is a good strategy to establish that no one is a loser in a negotiated outcome.

o Assess the future consequences that might arise when someone leaves the negotiation table feeling that he or she is a non-winner.

o Assess how the no one is a loser perspective does or does not impact the case study.

· Final Recommendations

o Justify at least five recommendations for creating positive outcomes in the case. In essence, when taking all your work in the case study to date into consideration, what are the five best practices or action steps you would suggest if you were asked to consult with the parties in the case study?

Important hint: You might find it helpful to begin each section of the paper by discussing the key themes and cues you observe. Then, do research on those key themes to both broaden and deepen your evaluation of the case and your understanding of the important issues. In the final product, about half your written evaluation of each topic should be research. About half should be application to the case study.

Recommendation for the level one heading for the body of your paper:

Overcoming Resource Disadvantage
Using Resource Application
Successful Strategies for Each Negotiation Stage

Implications for Creating Non-Winner Perceptions

CASE STUDY

More Meetings and Cost Estimate Negotiations After several more meetings and more preparation, Infosys submitted a cost estimate of $220,000. NTC requested a price reduction, since the total cost was almost 50 percent more than NISP’s competing proposal. Infosys objected but ultimately reduced the price by 20 percent. NTC also requested that the time be cut from 16 weeks to 14 weeks. Although doing so would require overlapping the design and coding phases of the project, Infosys agreed to the time reduction.

Problems Executing the Project In the course of development, NTC invited end users to test the system and entered the issues these users raised into the tracking system. Sachin thought most of the end-user issues were cosmetic, since they did not block the users from using the system. However, there were far more issues than Sachin had anticipated. Fixing them all would adversely affect the cost of the project or the schedule or both. Sachin told this to his NTC counterpart, trying to make the point that NTC should have frozen the requirements when the contract was agreed to. NTC’s response was that Infosys had been doing what it wanted to do without really knowing what NTC wanted. NTC also said that no delay in delivery was acceptable because NTC was already advertising the new VoIP service. NTC refused to pay extra for the new work associated with solving the end-user issues.

Discussion Questions 1. What did you notice about the way the opportunity for this project came about that was an unusual business practice for Infosys? 2. Describe the contract negotiations. In what way were these negotiations a departure from the way you would have expected negotiations to be conducted? 3. Why do you suppose NTC accepted Infosys’s 20 percent reduction, which still made its proposal more expensive than the other vendor’s? 4. Shouldn’t Infosys have asked for something in return for reducing its price? What might Infosys have asked for? 5. Once NTC got a price reduction, it asked for a two-week time reduction. Infosys agreed to that, too. Who was Infosys negotiating with? What should Infosys have done at this stage of the negotiation? Page 3 of 3 LEA6185_International Negotiations © 2009 South University 6. Communication during the meetings to develop specifications was difficult. Is there anything that Infosys could have done to facilitate communication, reduce the transaction costs associated with developing the bid, and minimize conflict once the project was launched? Keep in mind that translation in Japan is expensive. 7. When Sachin tried to make the point that NTC should have frozen the requirements when the contract was agreed to, NTC responded that Infosys did what it wanted to do without really knowing what NTC wanted. What might have led to this response? 8. Should Sachin have gone out for drinks with Yoneyama-san and the NTC engineer? Did Sachin need to drink alcohol?

Final Project: Criminal Behavior

Forensic Mental Health Assessment:  A Casebook https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/waldenu/reader.action?docID=241493

For your Final Project, you will examine three case scenarios from Heilbrun, Marczyk, & DeMatteo’s Forensic Mental Health Assessment: A Casebook in which each case scenario represents a different type of offender (i.e., mentally disordered offender, sex offender, violent offender, family violence offender, female offender, white-collar criminal, cybercriminal, or terrorist). You will apply a specific theoretical approach to the criminal behaviors displayed in each case. You also will analyze the degree to which developmental risk factors and correlates of criminal behavior influence the criminal behavior that the offender exhibits. Finally, you will evaluate whether or not the offender in each case scenario is a criminal.

Note: Although assessment is an integral step in the tasks you complete in this Final Project, for the purposes of this course and Final Project, you will not assess the offenders in the case scenarios you select.

Your Final Project shall be presented as follows:

  • 10 page  (not including references, title page, or abstract), double-spaced, APA-formatted paper

The Final Project must include:

  • A minimum of seven references (in addition to any course readings that you may wish to reference). Please be aware that websites such as Wikipedia will not be accepted as scholarly references. (Please consult the Walden University Library’s instructions for evaluating research resources, which includes a link to criteria for evaluating resources.)
  • A brief of each of the three case scenarios you selected
  • A description of each of the criminal behaviors exhibited by the offender in each case scenario
  • An analysis of how you might apply a specific biological, psychological, or sociological theory or approach to understanding and explaining each of the criminal behaviors. Be sure to select a different theory or approach for each behavior you discuss.
  • A description of the correlates and developmental risk factors that influence the specific criminal behaviors
  • An analysis of how each correlate and developmental risk factor influences the specific criminal behaviors
  • An answer to the question “Is this person a criminal?” with an analysis of why or why not

Your Final Project will be graded on a 20-point scale and is worth 4% of your final grade.

By Day 7 of Week 10

Although the Final Project is not due until Day 7 of Week 10, you should become familiar with the project requirements and have them in mind as you proceed through the course.

The Final Project will be evaluated according to all four indicators in the Assignment and Final Project Writing Rubric, which is located in the Course Info area. Be sure that the Final Project is written using APA format. Information on scholarly writing may be found in the APA Publication Manual and at the Walden Writing Center website. Also see “Policies on Academic Honesty,” in Walden University Policies and Information, in the Guidelines and Policies area.

The Final Project is due on Day 7 of Week 10. See the Week 10 Final Project area for submission details.

Discussion: Guilt Or Fear Appeal

Discussion: Guilt or Fear

What are the ethical issues around using persuasive techniques that are intended to make recipients feel uncomfortable but for beneficial reasons? That is one of the issues you will explore this week through this Discussion. You will respond to a scenario in which you, as a professional in the line of work you currently do or would like to do, are tasked with designing a strong message using either the guilt or the fear appeal. As you create your messages, consider the relationship between the outcome you hope to achieve and the ethics of how you choose to get there.

To prepare:

  • Review the Week 5 Learning Resources.
  • Develop the scenario by incorporating the following details. You may make up these details or base them on your workplace experiences. Include:
  • Name and type of agency or organization
  • Its purpose or mission
  • Purpose of the message you are creating and what issue(s) it aims to address
  • Target audience for the message
  • Consider whether the fear or guilt appeal will be more effective for the target audience and to achieve the message goals.
  • Create the text of the message, to include in your Discussion post.
  • Check your message for ethical compliance using the code of ethics associated with the type of professional organization you chose.
By Day 3

Post responses to the following:

  • Present the text of your message and the relevant contextual details, including the sponsoring agency/organization, message purpose, and target audience. Explain how your message demonstrates the fear or the guilt appeal and your assessment of the message’s compliance with ethical standards.
  • Justify your choice of appeal and why it should be effective for the target audience and issue(s).

Discussion: Reflecting On Child And Adolescent Development

PSYC 2002: Human Development: Childhood and Adolescence

Like human development, every course you take through Walden University is a journey. You likely start out with some excitement about the material and look forward to exploring a variety of topics.

Think back to each week of this course. As you read the introductions and looked over the Learning Resources, did you find concepts that you could relate to in your own developmental path or in the development of others? If you are a parent, perhaps you changed some of the ways you discipline your child or received confirmation that you were making good choices in your parenting. Perhaps understanding that all children come into this world with their own unique disposition made you feel better if you know a shy child who has to be coaxed to play with others. Or perhaps, you were confused as you read about the complicated patterns of genetic inheritance and wished you could skip that material!

Now, you are nearing the end of our journey in the study of child and adolescent development. This, your final Discussion assignment, is a time to reflect upon your most recent educational journey and to share your experiences.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Review your Learning Resources as you:

  • Consider the many theories and research regarding the development of infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Consider the contexts of development and how they help to shape who we become.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 3

Post three concepts (e.g., temperament, attachment) or research findings (e.g., outcomes associated with bullying) that most surprised you. Begin by briefly explaining the concepts or research findings for your classmates. Then, for each concept or finding, describe how this new knowledge will help to guide you as a parent or professional. End your post by noting the specific developmental period and topic you found most interesting in this course, and why.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.
