Diagnostic Remediation Project

The Key Assessment for this course is the Diagnostic Remediation Project. The Diagnostic-Remediation Packet (DRP) includes both formal and informal procedures for assessment for the practitioner teacher candidate/intern/resident.  The formal assessments will include the DRA (Directed Reading Activity), the BEAR (Basic Early Assessment Reading) Initial Skills Analysis, the Brigance Screen, and some phonemic awareness assessments (i.e. PALS) and some phonics assessments. Additional assessments may include DIBELS, and TPRI.  Some informal assessments include administering the IRI (Informal Reading Inventories), student-teacher conferences, teacher-made checklists and/or observation inventories. Due March 18, 2021

The Diagnostic-Remediation Packet for elementary grades 1-5 teacher candidates/interns/residents will include both formal and informal procedures for assessment.  These include norm-referenced tests (i.e. Iowa Tests of Basic Skills), criterion referenced tests (LEAP for the 21st Century), teacher-made tests, portfolio based assessments, student self-evaluations, journals, and other indicators of student progress to help identify instructional needs. Various assessments will be used to include fluency and comprehension measures.

The teacher candidates/interns/residents then use the diagnostic/assessment procedures in their packets with a self-selected student (at the on-site school if possible).  Based on the results of the diagnosis, the practitioner teachers design and implement remediation strategies for the selected individual students.  Opportunities are provided for the teacher candidates to share the results of their Diagnostic-Remediation Packets with the entire online class.  The teacher candidates are also required to critique various articles chosen from Reading/Literacy journals to reinforce and expand on information presented in the required course textbook. Practitioner Teacher candidates/interns/residents use the five essential components of reading for remediation activities.

Stock Journal Assignment

This week, you will find out if you have made money on your original (pretend) investments or if you will need to find a side job to recoup your losses.

This is the last of the three stock journal assignments you will complete during this course. For this assignment, you will add your work for Week 10 to your previous work from Weeks 3 and 8, following the instructions below. Two templates have been provided for your use.

  • The Weeks 3, 8, and 10 Stock Journal Project Excel Template 1 [XLSX] you began in Week 3 is where you will enter your chosen companies, the share prices, and the number of shares you will be purchasing given your budget of $25K.
    • Note: The above Excel template has been provided for your use for the stock journal assignment. You will notice that there are directions for your work in Weeks 3, 8, and 10. When submitting your assignment for each week, you may use the provided Excel template above, your own Excel template that you create or a Word document that you create as long as it communicates the requested information.
    • Note: There are locked cells in the Excel template. The cells have been locked to prevent the formulas from being disturbed. The cells that you will need to use to complete this assignment are not locked. You may create your own templates, however it is recommended that you use the templates provided.
  • The Weeks 3, 8, and 10 Stock Journal Writing Assignment Template [DOC] you began in Week 3 is where you will write your rationale/summary.

Download both templates. Then, complete, save, and upload both templates at the same time to Blackboard when submitting your work.

Note: Watch the Excel tutorial videos to learn how to use Excel before attempting the assignment. You can use the template provided or you may create your own template based on the one provided.

Instructions

For Week 10, review your investment for the last time and complete the following:

  1. Record the current price of the stock for each company you selected in Week 3’s Stock Journal.
    • You may use any price during this week (for example, day one price, the opening, the low, the high, the close, or any price you find when you check it during the day). Use the MS Excel spreadsheet or MS Word document to put your Week 10 stock prices side by side, so that you can compare them with Weeks 3 and 8.
  2. Determine the total value of your investment.
  3. Provide your final opinion or assessment of your investments and type your opinion or assessment into your Word document template.
    • Consider the following questions as you provide your assessment:
      • Did you make money or lose money?
      • What were your results?
      • Based on hindsight, what you would do differently?
  4. Discuss what you learned from this assignment and how this assignment could help you in the future. Include this information in your Word document template as well.
  5. Go to the Strayer library search page to locate and incorporate at least two quality sources into this assignment.
    • For stock price information, you may use the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, Yahoo! finance, or The Wall Street Journal Online.
  6. Submit two documents for your journal assignment submission by uploading both documents at the same time to the assignment submission area. Note that you will update your template in Weeks 3, 8, and 10. Save the template after you have entered your figures so that your selected stocks growth or decline can be tracked.
    • Completed Excel template with Week 3, 8, and 10 complete.
    • Completed Word document template with your rationale with Week 3, 8, and 10 complete.

What interests you most about a career in early childhood education?

this  must be done in 8 hours…… no late work……

Use the attachment to do the following:

you can write this as if you were me.  I have posted some info to use on question #3

Why ECE?

In a typed paper, please respond to the following questions, including five references to your textbook (at least one reference for each question):

1. What interests you most about a career in early childhood education?  Analyze at least three theories or ideas that have influenced the field of early childhood education. Present your own philosophy for the care and education of young children and include the ideas you analyzed that have shaped your own beliefs about how young children learn and develop

2. In what types of programs, based on what philosophies, would you consider working? Include program types and philosophies from which you will choose. What positions/titles will you pursue?

3. What experience, if any, have you had with young children (including fieldwork classes, volunteer work, babysitting, and other paid positions)? ***** For this please put that I have a son who is 2 years old and that is my experience with kids along with my nieces and nephews when I take care of them** you can emphasize on this.

4. Offer a self-assessment of your perceived effectiveness in a teaching role. Include at least five characteristics that have been identified by the profession as essential. Identify at least three traits you possess that make you well-suited to this work?

5. What concerns do you have about pursuing a career in Early childhood education?

How do these institutions shape gender identity in general, outside of your own experiences?

Provide an in-depth sociological analysis of your gender socialization. Apply what C. Wright Mills called the sociological imagination to an analysis of your own experiences with gender socialization. Consider how they were shaped by social institutions and historical forces.

Some of the questions you might consider are:

  • What are some of the ways in which you are/were socialized into an “appropriate” gender role?
  • How has that impacted your life, your work, or your family relations?
  • How did various social institutions (e.g. your family, mass media, religious institutions, educational institutions, sports etc.) shape your gender identity?
  • How do these institutions shape gender identity in general, outside of your own experiences?
  • Why do we place such great importance on “proper” gender role behavior?
  • How does society deal with people who violate gender norms?
  • How does gender socialization shape who we become as individuals?

Your paper will be evaluated on its structure as well as its content. It should have an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement. The thesis statement makes clear what the main issue of your paper is. The body should be organized around the key points that support your thesis and provide examples to illustrate how your experience was shaped by social institutions. Use this as a rule of thumb: One idea per sentence, one topic per paragraph. The final paragraph is where you draw conclusions from the material presented in the body of your paper (not a summary). Drive home the main idea presented in your thesis. It is important you include in text attributions consistently through this paper, especially when tying to key terms from our readings and your supplemental resource.
