Purpose(s):
1. To develop a Personal Nursing Philosophy
2. Personally define what nursing is, by addressing the elements of a human being, health, environment and professional nursing.
3. Consider nursing from the prospective of a philosophers’ concern with knowledge and the essential elements of nursing as a scientific discipline also concerned with ethics and aesthetics.
4. To strengthen graduate level writing skills.
(Graduate level writing displays critical thinking skills. The writer demonstrates the ability to see various sides of an argument: he/she questions assumptions, avoids commonplaces and develops a clear argument from professional experience and/or the available literature on the subject.)
Assignment:
Write a reflective paper on your vision of professional nursing from your present perspective in time.
You may consider the meta-paradigm concepts of nursing, human being, health, environment and nursing.
Part I Do not consider a specific nursing theory at this time.
What do see as essential characteristics of your present nursing praxis. You may or may not choose to compare your present view with that of your view as a new graduate.
Part II Revisit your original philosophy. Review and revise your philosophy if any of your thinking has changed during the semester. If there are revisions make them in your original Philosophy I paper.
Reflect on the nursing theories you have been exposed to throughout the semester. Identify a current nursing theory that is aligned with your personal philosophy. Discuss the chosen theory as to why or how you see it, or parts of it (a current theory may not be a perfect fit) are aligned with your personal nursing philosophy.
Attach Part I to Part II for hard copy submission in class on the assigned due date for Part II

Describe the changing role of the nurse today and how they are influenced by the organizational nursing theory.

Choose a contemporary school of nursing, hospital, nursing home,
or other facility in the healthcare arena and research the nursing
theory used there. Describe the changing role of the nurse today
and how they are influenced by the organizational nursing
theory.
Your presentation should include (60 pts.):
How the nursing theory enhances professional nursing practice in
the roles of advocate, provider, teacher, manager, researcher, and
leader. (20 pts.)
How using nursing theory and theory from other disciplines as a
basis for the nursing process helps promote health and healing. (10
pts.)
How we can use nursing theory to challenge professional and
organizational assumptions, explore alternatives, and guide nursing
actions. (30 pts.)
This assignment is a PowerPoint presentation only. (40 pts.) The
presentation should include no more than 20 slides. If you use
graphics be sure they are small in size, so your presentation can
be loaded quickly.

differentiate the concepts of person, environment, health, and
nursing, as they relate to select nursing theories by: (Competency

identifying and defining the nursing metaparadigms. (10 pts.)
analyzing the philosophical bases of the concepts as they relate to
specific theorists. (10 pts.) differentiating the concepts as they

Can Positive Duties be Derived from Kant’s Categorical Imperative?

Purpose: DiscussionThing to Remember:_____________DISCUSSION:One example of a nursing theory is the environmental theory from Florence Nightingale. Even though her intention was not to actually develop a theory her rules for practice ended up becoming one thereby making her model both descriptive and practical (Butts & Rich 2018). Nightingale used 13 facets of nursing care that addressed patient needs although they are not all-inclusive. Florence also briefly touches on giving ones whole attention to a patient and to never rush them through an assessment as Im sure this will not only make the practitioner more likely to miss a crucial piece of the puzzle but will also hurt the trust of the practitioner-patient relationship. Always sit down when a sick person is talking business to you show no signs of hurry and give complete attention (Clatworthy 2010). A practitioner can use Nightingales basic patient rights to healthcare to provide holistic care. Alternately an example of a non-nursing theory is the way of deontology. According to our text it literally means the study of duty (Butts & Rich 2018). I chose this theory because it is all encompassing related to morals but can easily be shifted to use in a nursing setting. As a practitioner it is ones duty to provide the best care for a patient not only addressing their physical needs but all other needs as well emotional mental and spiritual. Immanuel Kants theory is useful in this situation because rational choice is within ones control whereas one has only tenuous control over personal emotions only reason and not emotion is sufficient to lead a person to moral actions (Butts & Rich 2018). Kants ethics sees the ground of morality in pure reason (Yudanin 2015). It is within reason to view a patient as multifaceted therefore the practitioner must fulfill their duty to provide again holistic care. When taking these two theories along with two practitioners who operate on either theory separately and joining them together the aforementioned practitioners can truly address every issue and also engage in preventative care to meaningfully treat a patient.References:Butts J.
