Discuss the purpose of a concept analysis in relationship to theory.

This assignment presents a modified method for conducting a concept analysis of ONE concept that is important and useful to nursing.  The concept for this assignment must be supported by a published nursing theory. The selected concept is identified and then the elements of the analysis process are applied in order to synthesize knowledge for application as demonstrated through the creation of model, borderline, and contrary cases.  Theoretical applications of the concept are also discussed. Non-nursing theories may NOT be used. The paper concludes with a synthesis of the student’s new knowledge about the concept. The scholarly literature is incorporated throughout the analysis.

Only the elements identified in this assignment should be used for this concept analysis.

Discuss one major theoretical perspective, such as a nursing theory, that currently guides your nursing practice and discuss why this perspective was chosen and how it guides and impacts on your nursing practice.

ASSESSMENT: Discussion Paper

Perspectives on Nursing Overview of Discussion Paper

Aim of assessment – The aim of the assessment task is to provide the student with the opportunity to discuss the applicability and importance of theory guided nursing practice, including the discussion of their application of a major espoused theory and exploration of their own theory-in-use and how this impacts on their own nursing practice.

Details – Reed (2006) argues that “when nurses deliberately use their theories in practice, they can facilitate processes that significantly benefit patients, nurses, the healthcare system, and the broader environment” (p. 328). Greenwood (2000), however, argues that there is a substantial theory-practice gap between the nursing theories nurses claim they use in practice (espoused theories) and the actual theories they use in practice (theories-in-use) which may have “important implications for the quality of nursing practice” (p. 9). Discuss.

Assessment Objectives:

Discuss one major theoretical perspective, such as a nursing theory, that currently guides your nursing practice and discuss why this perspective was chosen and how it guides and impacts on your nursing practice.

Discuss your own personal theory of nursing, including your beliefs and values in relation to the concepts of health, nursing, person and environment and the relationships between these concepts as you understand them.

Discuss how your own personal theory-in-use developed and how it impacts on your actual nursing practice.

With particular reference to current (from 2011 onwards) academic literature, discuss the importance and applicability of theory guided nursing practice in general and to your own nursing practice in particular.

Note –

The work is to be structured as a formal essay, with a relevant introduction, body of work and conclusion, however, headings and subheadings may be used. The assessment task as set must be adequately and appropriately addressed. There must be clear identification and evidence of understanding of major issues, with evidence of critical examination of issues, including sound arguments and positions adequately supported by academic literature as appropriate and required. When presenting your own reflections and ideas in relation to your own personal theory of nursing, it is appropriate to use the first person; however, elsewhere use of the third person is required.

The reference list is not included in the word count, but in-text references are counted.

Please write an essay with introduction and follow all the criteria's which has been given (attached).

You can write heading as follows in this essay:

1. Introduction

2. Any one of the Espoused theory relevant for my nursing practice

3. My personal theory

4. Four paradigms of nursing and relation between them

5. Development of own personal theory and its impact on practice

6. Importance and applicability of theory guided nursing practice

7. Conclusion.

Module III: Communication and Collaboration
Introduction
Nurses understand the fundamentals of a good working relationship and historically, are successful in coordinating patient care even when there are conflicting methods of treatment and goals among healthcare providers. Acting as a member within a multidisciplinary team has allowed nurses to use their own professional skill to earn the distinction of being the most trusted profession. Although being the most trusted profession is a great honor, health care issues such as barriers that reduce access to healthcare and common medical errors challenge patient trust of all health professionals. In today??s health care environment the master??s prepared nurse is being called upon to step outside the established comfort zone of working as a leader /member within a multidisciplinary group and elevate their performance along with all healthcare providers to function as an interprofessional team.
Functioning as an interprofessional collaborative team moves beyond what is historically viewed as collaboration (i.e. through good group communication skills, agreement of common goals are reached so that each practitioner employs one’s own professional practice independently). In addition to goal agreement and good communication, collaboration requires creation and synergy among the professions. In this context, collaboration of an interprofessional team requires a deeper understanding of each profession??s skills, values, roles, and perceptions such that the combined professions produce a unique skill set which can design something completely new and better than when working as an independent professional within a multidisciplinary group (WHO, 2010). To achieve such heights requires the master’s prepared nurse to be knowledgeable and skilled in: a) group dynamics and group processes; b) maximizing nursing as well as other healthcare professions contributions to the healthcare team; and c) deploying collaborative and effective communication strategies that lead interprofessional teams to synergistically improve care outcomes and facilitate healthcare policy changes (AACN, 2011 and WHO, 2010). The purpose of this module is to reflect on your own current conflict management, communication, and team skills and to expand on these skills to meet the challenges that an interprofessional team leader/member faces in building a true 21st century healthcare system collaborative practice.
Module Objectives
At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
1. Examine interprofessional collaboration competencies in relation to health care settings.
2. Apply principles of negotiation and structured communication tools that reduce miscommunication and conflict.
3. Synthesize various conflict management styles/strategies in certain situations that facilitate positive outcomes.
