Based on my personal experience as a nurse, there are differences between clinical practice guidelines, standards, and algorithms. However, to facilitate my endeavors as a nurse, I will need to apply all these aspects.
To begin with, clinical practice guidelines refer to the recommendations provided in the nursing profession regarding how a medical practitioner should handle special conditions (Shekelle, 2016). As alleged by the Institute of Medicine, practice guidelines aim at optimizing patient care based on evidence and experience. Conversely, clinical algorithms are formats in texts that facilitate the decision-making process. The texts include the sequences of clinical decisions which are to be applied when providing patient care (Registered Nurses of British Columbia, 2016). The algorithms are, thus, compared in relation to their effectiveness in decision analysis. Finally, practice standards are a set of rules and regulations established by the American Nursing Association, which nurses are required to follow to provide quality services to the patients

Briefly discuss the terms vicarious liability and corporate liability.

This module provided some insight into the doctrines of vicarious and corporate liability. These are both just as serious as employee negligence. In fact, in most cases, the organization is named with along side the employee in a negligence lawsuit. This is not a new phenomenon as highlighted in the case “Norton v. Argonaut Insurance Co.” These events occurred in 1959. For this assignment, please read the case and appeal (http://www.leagle.com.) After reading the case, please answer the following questions:
1. Briefly discuss the terms vicarious liability and corporate liability.
2. Identify the various mistakes in the case and indicate which type of liability might result.
3. As the facility administrator, chief of staff, or chief of nursing, what steps would you take to prevent this from happening again?
4. This case happened over 50 years ago. What safeguards are in place today to prevent these types of mistakes?
5. What does pretermitting mean? Does it apply to this case?

Research colleges or universities that have adopted one or more competency-based programs.

Imagine that the president of Grand City University is considering recommendation of a competency-based learning program. A committee including faculty members and administrators has done extensive research and conducted a pilot program about implementing competency-based courses for several of the health science programs. These new programs would cover post-baccalaureate coursework that are prerequisite content for admission to graduate programs, including nursing and pharmacy. The president needs to make a decision about whether to approach the legislature for funds for this program and has asked you to prepare a paper examining the issue.
To prepare:
• Research colleges or universities that have adopted one or more competency-based programs.
• Research that institution’s mission.
• Consider how the competency-based program supports the institution’s mission.
To complete:
Write a 3- to 4-page paper in which you do the following:
• Identify the university that has adopted a competency-based program.
• Analyze the institution’s mission and whether or not it supports competency-based learning.
• Considering Grand City University:
o Make a case for or against the competency-based model at Grand City University.
o Explain to legislators the benefits or the possible drawbacks.
o Identify 2–3 differences in costs for competency-based learning compared to a traditional course.

Expert Opinion and Critical Thinking in Research

Expert Opinion and Critical Thinking in Research

Review the information in Chapter  6 about expert opinion and select a topic from science or technology on which experts might disagree (for example, possible health hazards of cell phones, global warming/global climate change, or the value of vitamin supplements). Use the Internet to research this topic and find one point on which experts seem to agree, one point on which experts disagree, and one opinion that seems to be influenced by financial or political motives. In your discussion post, state your topic, report the three points above, and discuss what your learned from this research. Be sure to cite the URL of the websites you used for your information. Explain in at least 200 – 250 words.   Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.)

discussion 2

Discuss what aspects of conducting research are the easiest and the most difficult for you and why you find these areas easy and difficult. Include at least one ethical issue from your reading in Chapter 5 last week as one of the easy or difficult issues. Which types of sources do you find most difficult to evaluate and why? What specific idea did you learn from your reading and/or assignments this week that will help you in your future research? Explain in at least 200 – 250 words. Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ postings by Day 7. (You must create one initial post and at least two responses, for a minimum of three posts for this discussion.
