Occupational Health Management Program Proposal

Task
“Occupational Health Management Program Proposal”
In this assessment task you are required to develop an occupational health management program proposal for an identified occupational health hazard in one identified workplace. This could include drugs and alcohol/ lifestyle issues (e.g., diet, cardiovascular health, smoking), as well as hazardous work such as radiation, noise exposure, heat stress, or infection by needle stick injury, as well as fatigue or mental stress. These suggested occupational health hazards are not limited to the above. Your assignment must compare, examine and critically discuss the literature for your selected topic. You may select your own topic, but please discuss your choice with your academic before you proceed.
The tasks required for this assignment and the points that should be addressed are as follows:
1. An introduction which clearly and concisely summarises the assignment content and forecasts the substance of the full discussion in the body of the text.
2. Details of the workplace; the physical space it occupies, the type of work, number of workers, worker profiles (e.g., gender; age, socio-economic background, experience, length of employment in the workplace, duration and frequency of exposure to the health hazard).
3. Identify an occupational health hazard and associated risks at your selected workplace.
You should consider whether the related risk exposure is a result from work practices, materials used in the workplace or the type of work/ task exposure or the work environment including for example radiation, heat, psychological. Why it is an issue? In doing this you need to consider:
What are the risks arising from this hazard and how were these risks· assessed?
What are the legal requirements and any ethical considerations?·
Is change needed? Explain what the change/s may be.·
Consider the current management/ control measures in place and the· effect these have on eliminating or minimising the occupational health hazard.
4) Detail the occupational health program you have chosen.
Identify· & discuss the desired outcomes and the goals of the program
Identify and justify the activities that will be involved in· developing and implementing the program

Detail how the program will be monitored and evaluated for success and· how you would assess the effectiveness of the occupational health management program and
What methods/ tools you would use for undertaking the evaluation.·
5) Conclusions
A conclusion that summarises the main content of the discussion informed by the beginning of the process in the introduction where you initially outlined the content and discussion.
The assignment must use correct Harvard Referencing style both in-text and in the reference list.
Please note you are not required for this assessment task to implement the program on its implementation.
Assessment Criteria
You will be assessed according to the marking rubric below

Briefly describe the main assumptions you will make in your model. Collection of data inputs

Instructions:

This course work is in two sections:

Section A) A critical of a paper: Maximum word count is 1,250 words
Section B) Development of a Modelling plan + outline model structure: Maximum word count is 1,250 words + copy of an outline model structure.
BOTH sections must be completed. The total maximum word count for this course work is 2,500 words + copy of an outline model structure.
You have been provided with a suggested template which you can use to complete Section A and B.
A short scenario has been given to enable you to complete the course work (i will uploed it)

Section A:
Produce a maximum 1,250 word report detailing a critical health economics appraisal of the Nguyen and Bernstein paper (i will be uploaded) using an appropriate critical appraisal tool/framework.

This should include:
• A succinct critical appraisal of the paper including strengths and limitations.

• The gaps in this analysis which could be addressed by adapting or undertaking a new health economic analysis using a decision analytical model.

Section B:
Produce a maximum 1,250 word modelling plan for your proposed health economic analysis to fill the gaps in the analysis and address the decision problem.
Provide a fully labelled outline of your proposed model structure
Consider the following, along with other relevant features, in your modelling plan

The aim of the analysis
• Patient population and any sub-groups to be considered in the analysis.
• Intervention(s) and comparator
• Outcomes

Model structure
• The structure of the proposed model (include an outline model structure in your report) with a short description of the treatment pathways to be modelled and health states.
• Report the computer package you will use to undertake your analysis.
• State the proposed setting ( country and health service sector) time horizon and perspective for your model with justification

Model assumption
Briefly describe the main assumptions you will make in your model.
Collection of data inputs
• Resource use and costs—the data and methods you will use to cost up each of your treatment and pathways describing how you will assign values e.g. unit costs and potential sources of information.
• Clinical data required and which sources of data you would consider and why (including any ranking) e.g. meta-analysis, single RCT, observational, registry data etc. The types of data needed to populate the model e.g. transition probabilities, morbidity, mortality should be outlined
• Health utilities- the data and methods you will use to populate your model e.g. baseline utility scores, utility decrements as a result of VTE. Describe the preferred method of capturing utilities to be used.
• Any discounting to be applied

Discuss the significance of the service in terms of its health, economic and social impact by providing critical analysis of research.

This assignment is intended to assess the following learning outcomes:

  1. a) Explain the use of descriptive and inferential statistics in the design and interpretation of health and healthcare research, and in service improvement.
  2. b) Identify the nature and sources of information and data needed to write a research proposal and report using appropriate research process criteria
  3. c) Plan a research project appropriate to a field of study
  4. d) Select and implement appropriate analytical techniques
  5. e) Constructively critique the research of others, identifying strengths and weaknesses in technique, analysis and conclusions.
  6. f) Evaluate an existing healthcare or service programme

Details of the task In your report and plan you will be expected to:

1) Select a health outcome relevant to your programme (Health Service Management) and critically evaluate research studies relating to a service designed to improve this health outcome.

2) Your critical evaluation should include discussion of the creation, expansion, contracture or closure of the service.

3) Discuss the significance of the service in terms of its health, economic and social impact by providing critical analysis of research.

4) Describe populations (geographically, socially, economically, etc) that may benefit most from this service (please make reference to specific research evidence to support the information presented).

5) Identify research priorities relating to this service. i.e. Is further research/evaluation required?

6) Provide a plan to describe how research/evaluation may provide more information about the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of this service
