Analyze your selected example of a health care product or service in terms of product strategy (including product life cycle and branding), price, and distribution. Include references to two or more outside resources that further your understanding of these concepts and their application for this product/service.

Product Strategy, Pricing, and Distribution

Marketing information is critical throughout the product life cycle. The marketing function also plays an essential role in determining pricing and distribution for products or services.

Prepare for this Application Assignment as follows:

This week’s media segment, “ Strategic Planning in Action: Good Samaritan Hospital of Maryland” presents some information on the marketing decisions made for the JointExperience and The Spine Center at that hospital. Consider how the information presented in this media segment relates to the concepts and ideas presented in the course text, as well as last week’s media segment.

With this in mind, select a specific health care product or service of interest to you. For instance, you may choose an over the counter medication, medical device, or specialty care within a health care organization. If you would like, you may use the same product or service you selected for the Discussion.

Research the product or service you have selected using the Internet and the Walden Library. Analyze your selected example in terms of concepts related to:

Product strategy, including the product life cycle and branding (Chapter 8 of Essentials of Health Care Marketing)

Price (Chapter 9 of Essentials of Health Care Marketing)

Distribution (Chapter 10 of Essentials of Health Care Marketing)

Also analyze the connection between these aspects of marketing and strategic planning. Why is it important for these elements of marketing efforts to be tied to a strategic plan?

As you formulate your analysis, be sure to include insights from this week’s Discussion, various Learning Resources, and your own research. You should identify at least two journal or news articles that further your understanding of these concepts and how they apply to the product/service you have selected.

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

Analyze your selected example of a health care product or service in terms of product strategy (including product life cycle and branding), price, and distribution. Include references to two or more outside resources that further your understanding of these concepts and their application for this product/service. Make note of any information that would be helpful for your analysis but is not available.

Analyze the effectiveness of these promotional strategies. Consider who the target market might be, and why these strategies might have been chosen. What could you surmise about the organization’s strategic priorities?

What makes a health care product or service stand out from its competitors? Perhaps you recognize the advertising slogans below:

“Tylenol: The pain reliever hospitals use most”

“Walgreens: The Pharmacy America Trusts”

“Merck: Where patients come first”

“The More You Know, The More You Trust Bayer.

Take it for Pain. Take it for Life”

“Pfizer:Working for a healthier world”

“GlaxoSmithKline: Do more, feel better, live longer”

Advertising slogans can be an effective way to differentiate oneself in a competitive marketplace. In addition, today’s organizations use a variety of means to promote their products and services. For this Discussion, you will research and analyze aspects of an organization’s promotional strategies.

Prepare for this Discussion as follows:

This week’s media segment, “Strategic Planning in Action: Good Samaritan Hospital of Maryland” presents some of the promotion strategies employed for the JointExperience and The Spine Center at that hospital. Consider how the information presented in this media segment relates to the concepts and ideas presented in last week’s media segment, as well as the text chapters, particularly Chapters 11 and 12.

Select a different health care organization, product, or service of interest to you. Conduct research on your own to identify one or more examples that demonstrate use of promotional strategies. For instance, you may examine television commercials and newspaper ads for a local physician practice, or a website designed to promote a medical device.

Analyze the effectiveness of these promotional strategies. Consider who the target market might be, and why these strategies might have been chosen. What could you surmise about the organization’s strategic priorities? Be prepared to support your rationale.

Devise at least one recommendation for improving upon or adding to the promotion strategies.

As you do this, reflect on the ethical considerations involved in promotion. What ethical responsibilities should guide health care leaders as they engage in various aspects of marketing?

Response to the following:

In the first line of your posting, identify the organization, product, or service you have selected. Provide a brief description of one or more examples of promotional strategies. If possible, include a web link or other attachment to allow others to view the source(s).

Analyze each example of a promotional strategy. Explain why you think each is—or isn’t—e ffective. Describe who you think the target market is, and the potential connections between these promotional strategies and the strategic priorities of that organization. Be sure to provide your rationale.

Provide at least one recommendation for how you would improve upon or expand these promotional strategies.

Describe the ethical responsibilities that you believe should guide health care leaders as they engage in various aspects of marketing.

Evaluation of a Weight Loss Program

Many Americans believe that they are overweight, by a few pounds to a few hundred pounds. Because of this, weight loss systems are big business. For this assignment, you are to select a weight loss system and evaluate it in terms of the information about the physiology of ingestive behavior covered this module.

  • Find a website, a brochure, a popular article, or an advertisement about weight control that proposes a mechanism for loss of excess weight.
  • Document the key proposals in terms of the main claims for success of the program (e.g., restriction of fat and small portions).
  • Describe the reasons provided for the effectiveness of the program (e.g., a full stomach reduces hunger).
  • Discuss the physiological components involved in the weight loss program. Clearly express an understanding of the physiology of the process of hunger, satiation, eating, and drinking as relevant for the weight loss method being described (e.g., long periods between meals would be likely to reduce blood sugar levels).
  • Present a critique of the materials based on the module information on eating and weight regulation.
  • Evaluate the proposal and suggest whether you would try this weight loss system or recommend it to someone else. Explain why or why not.

For references use the course text book and Scholarly sources are preferred  and  use reputable web sources, look for .gov or .edu sites as opposed to .com sites.

Your paper should be double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font, and with normal 1-inch margins; written in APA style; and free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page and a reference page. The body of the paper should be between 3 and 4 pages.

Develop hypotheses related to the function of the target behavior based on fictional specifics of the tools and procedures you have described in your report.

Using the referral case study you chose as the emphasis of the Unit 5 Assignment, develop and outline a comprehensive Functional Behavioral Assessment Report. The specific objective of your Functional Behavioral Assessment Report is to demonstrate synthesis of the course material related to FBA’s as they have been presented in the course. The FBA Report should be specifically related to the case study that you chose to cover for the Unit 5 Assignment. Here are those case scenarios as they were presented for that project:

  1. A third grade student in a public elementary school has been referred for behavior problems continuously for the past three months. This student is demonstrating consistently disruptive behaviors in this classroom and in other settings within the school (lunch, recess, specials, etc.). Disruptive behaviors have been termed “aggressive” and “non-compliant” by school staff.
  2. The parents of a four-year-old have asked for help in “getting control” of their child’s behavior. The child has been consistently throwing “temper tantrums” at home and out in the community. The “tantrums” have become so frequent and intense, that the child has no virtually no demands placed on him or her and is frequently left to do whatever he or she wants to do. The family has become more or less homebound for fear of experiencing the “tantrums” out in public places.
  3. Johnny is a six-year-old child with autism. His communication skills are significantly deficient and he demonstrates a wide variety of problem behaviors. Most concerning is the tendency for him to demonstrate self injurious behavior that has recently increased in frequency and intensity. An ER visit was necessitated by a recent incident of this behavior. Some of Johnny’s more intense characteristics related to autism spectrum disorders includes repetitive and ritualistic behavior patterns and an apparent need to collect and acquire a variety of specific tangible items such as Hot Wheels cars and Legos. Johnny is generally only “well behaved” when access to these items are free and frequent.
  4. A 35-year-old resident in a group home for adults with developmental disabilities has been knocking out windows in the house over the past several months. He or she has required medical attention for injuries sustained by this behavior and placement at the group home is now in jeopardy. This group home has three other residents. All residents in this group home are expected to complete various tasks around the house, participate in social interaction activities, and work two days a week at a workshop. So far, the behaviors have only been reported at the group home.

Project Expectations:

  1. Utilize Examples 2 and 4 from Chapter 12 of your Ebook as models for your report; however, it is not necessary to structure them exactly as they are presented.
  2. At a minimum, your FBA Report must include the required components as reviewed at the beginning of chapter 12.
  3. For each of those components, you should include specific details as they would be related to the referral scenario you are addressing. Details would include descriptions of the assessment tools, forms, and procedures that would have been implemented.
  4. It is not necessary to report actual scores or responses of completed assessment forms and tools, but there should be in inclusion of some detailed information that could have been gained by utilizing such tools and procedures within the context of the case scenario you are working on. DO NOT simply list items.
  5. It is not necessary, nor appropriate, to include ALL of the assessment tools, forms, and procedures reviewed in the course. Be judicious in your choices and make good clinical decisions on what assessment procedures you are including.
  6. Develop hypotheses related to the function of the target behavior based on fictional specifics of the tools and procedures you have described in your report.
  7. All tools, forms, and procedures reviewed in Units 4–9 should be considered when developing the components to be included in your FBA Report, but, as stated above, not necessary to include all of them.
  8. It is expected that you will need to demonstrate “creativity” and/or “dramatic license” when outlining the steps of the Functional Behavioral Assessment you are reporting on.

Assignment Guidelines:

  1. 2500 words minimum
  2. APA Format
  3. Utilize the readings and other course material from the course.
  4. If you feel you must find outside resources for assistance, please utilize academically legitimate resources (DO NOT use websites and Wiki’s that are not peer-reviewed)
  5. DO NOT focus on the use of diagnoses or labels
  6. Be specific and detailed; do not just list items and facts
