Developmental Analysis

Developmental Analysis Instructions

The purpose of this paper is for you to demonstrate your ability to apply a working knowledge of the theories, terminology, and concepts of human growth and development. You will discuss your own development over your lifetime and how it relates to the developmental concepts discussed throughout the semester. You are to analyze your life as it relates to the keys aspects of human growth and development. What are key developmental times in your life and the influencing factors that led to who you are today?

You are to incorporate your empirical studies related to your chosen developmental aspect of your life. Also, use the readings, videos, or presentations you viewed to support what you propose about your own development in your paper. Depending on your life and the influences, there may be more attention placed during one period of time. You are encouraged to glean information from your mother about her pregnancy with you to see if there were any notable issues during that time. Remember to include your spiritual development with applicable research.

In addition, obtain as much information as you can about any significant events in your early childhood years. How did you do in those key developmental years? Did you approach all developmental milestones with ease, or were there challenges? Since this is a comprehensive paper, you will address your development across your lifespan.

Finally, you will conclude your paper with addressing any current lifestyle behaviors that may influence your aging process. You are to address these issues, how they will affect your aging process, and what you plan to do about it.

The body of the paper is to be 8–10 pages (excluding title page, abstract, and references). Five points will be deducted for every page the assignment is short. If the assignment is 7 pages, 5 points will be deducted; if the assignment is 6 pages, 10 points will be deducted; if the assignment is 5 pages, 15 points will be deducted, etc.

This assignment is to be completed adhering strictly to current APA format. Points will be lost for poor citation use and poor use of empirical knowledge to support the author’s thoughts (you will not have an “A” paper without proper APA format, and without proper citations you will not have a “B” paper.).

You must include at least 8–10 peer-reviewed, relevant sources in your paper (at least 7 of the sources must be at least 7 empirical articles). The sources must have been written in 2005 or later, unless that citation is linked to an author whose work is seminal to your topic.

Submit this assignment via SafeAssign by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 7.

Retrospective Analysis Of Personality

Assignment 1: Retrospective Analysis of Personality
Due Week 9 and worth 220 points

In this assignment, begin by taking a retrospective look at your life history, to discuss which aspects of your personality have remained consistent and which aspects of your personality have changed over time. Then, analyze the roles of nature and nurture in shaping your personality. Subsequently, discuss possible sources of inaccuracy and bias in any retrospective analysis. Finally, discuss the reasons why systematic scientific studies are considered more valuable than individual accounts.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Reflect on your life history and discuss which aspects of your personality have changed over time and which aspects have stayed consistent.
  2. Based on your retrospective analysis, describe the roles of nature and nurture in shaping your personality. Reflect on your justification for distinguishing between nature and nurture.
  3. Discuss the possible sources of bias and inaccuracy whenever a person looks back on their past history. Be sure to discuss factors related to memory and factors related to cognition.
  4. Describe why the science of psychology places more emphasis on results based on scientific studies than it does on personal experience and anecdotes.

The How And Why Of Well-Being

According to Martin Seligman (2005), there are three basic positive psychology pillars. These are the following:

  • The pleasant life
  • The good life
  • The meaningful life

Seligman purports that experiencing these three pillars creates what is called “the full-life.” This assignment focuses on the first pillar: the pleasant life.

The pleasant life encompasses subjective well-being and happiness along with encouraging encounters with positive affect and experiences. The good life includes identifying signature strengths to facilitate flow. The meaningful life includes participating in activities for the good of society.

For this assignment, you will focus on the pleasant life. Do the following:

  • Design an ideal day for yourself. Include positive emotions and experiences that facilitate positive emotions.
  • Live your ideal day.
  • Summarize your experiences in a paper.

Address the following points in your paper:

  • What was your general emotional state during the day?
  • What helped to create this emotional state?
  • Was there anything that minimized or countered your positive emotional affect? If yes, then what could have been done differently to change this experience?
  • According to the positive psychology model, why is this activity important?

Include and discuss two scholarly references that support the idea of experiencing positive emotions to facilitate happiness.

Write a 3-page reflection paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M1_A3.doc. For example, if your name is John Smith, your document will be named SmithJ_M1_A3.doc.

By Wednesday, June 24, 2015, deliver your assignment to the M1: Assignment 3 Dropbox.
