Internet Search Of Three Cultures

Do an Internet search for timely and relevant journal articles related to deaf culture. Identify aspects of the culture that are surprising to you or that you did not know. Reflect on what you can learn from or about people who think differently than you because of their histories.

Next, do an Internet search on “whiteness” and consider the validity of the perspectives of the people you read about.

Choose another culture and do a third Internet search on it, considering its perspective.

Write a two-part essay  (750-1,000 words) on what you found:

In the first part of the essay, carefully compare and contrast the three groups as to the factors that identify them as cultures. Consider the following in your essay:

  1. What are their rules and values?
  2. Describe the languages they speak or the gestures they use or do not use.

In the second part of the essay, thoughtfully reflect on what a person should know about these three cultures in order to effectively communicate with them. Consider the following in your essay:

  1. If you are a member of one of these groups, continue to write in the third person as though you were writing from outside of your group.
  2. Finally, reflect on how knowing these things about these three cultures should affect your intercultural communication.

Does this apply to all prisoners, or just to Native Americans?

Choose either Option A or Option B. Formulate an initial post in which you address the points noted in the prompt for your chosen option.

Option A: Native American Religion

Then, address the following:

  • Should Native Americans be able to perform their ceremonies in prison? Explain your position using evidence from the article and your textbook.
  • Do inmates give up all rights when they enter prison? Does this include the right to practice their religion?

Does this apply to all prisoners, or just to Native Americans?

Option B: Social Groups

There are many different kinds of social groups in the United States: clubs, fraternities, gangs, counterculture groups, online communities, and so forth. Identify a social group that you are part of, and then discuss which of the social control mechanisms (mentioned in section 8.4 of the textbook) are applied in your group. Why do you think these forms of social control are effective?

Your post must be at least 300 words in length.

Briefly describe the essential features of the RNR model and the GLM and analyze their strengths.

Assignment 2: Balancing Sex Offender Treatment with Community Risk

The process of rehabilitation has two broad aims: helping the offender identify and change maladaptive patterns of thinking and behavior and reintegrating the offender into the community in a way that does not compromise public safety. In this module, your assigned readings have exposed you to two different models of sex offender rehabilitation: the RNR model and the GLM.

Using the module’s readings, the Argosy University online library resources, the Internet, and professional literature, conduct additional research on the RNR model and the GLM.

Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Briefly describe the essential features of the RNR model and the GLM and analyze their strengths.
  • Provide an opinion about whether both models are equally effective in enhancing community safety.
  • Provide an opinion about whether both models are equally effective in promoting offender welfare.
  • Discuss two ethical issues that the forensic professional should consider when choosing between these two models of offender rehabilitation.

Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Your response should rely upon at least two additional sources from the professional literature. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .gov, and the apa.org website).

Compile your research in a 1- to 2-page Microsoft Word document.
