Govt – Writing Assignment

Please chose one of the three topics to write your end of semester essay.  As you will note, you need not do any outside research to write this paper. This paper should primarily reflect your opinions, ideas, knowledge, and concerns. Mechanical instructions are included in the document below along with the three topics from which you may choose one to write about.  Paper is due by end of day this coming Friday, December 11.  Please write me if you have any questions or need any assistance.  This paper, which is one of the five graded exercises in the course, will allow many of you to raise your overall grade as I drop the lowest of the five grades this semester and average the four remaining. You can do well on this paper.  Just sit at your computer and talk to me about what I’ve asked you.  Before you send it to me, read over it, make corrections where you see that a sentence or a phrase made sense which you were writing it but not when you’re reading it.  Don’t worry.  That’s part of the writing process: Get your ideas down, then go back and clean it all up, and submit that revised, reworked paper.

in  a  significant  way?   • Are  you  more  or  less  interested  in  government  and  politics  now?   • Is  government  and  politics  important  in  your  life  now  based  on  your  studies

this  semester?    Why  or  why  not?       TERRORISM     During  this  semester,  ISIS  terrorists  attacked  six  locations  on  November  13  in   Paris  France  killing  130  people  and  wounding  413  people.    On  December  2,  14  people   were  killed  and  21  wounded  in  a  terrorist  attack  in  San  Bernadino,  California.    It  has   been  determined  that  the  man  and  wife  who  conducted  the  attack  had  ties  and   allegiances  to  ISIS.    Other  terrorist  attacks  have  occurred  over  the  past  several   months,  however,  these  two  have  gained  the  most  attention  here  in  the  United  States.   In  your  essay,  discuss  some  of  the  following  points:

    • Have  you  been  following  the  news  about  these  and  other  terrorist  incidents?   • Are  you  concerned  or  fearful  of  terrorist  attacks?   • What  do  you  know  about  ISIS  and  their  beliefs  and  goals?   • Where  did  you  learn  this?   • Do  you  believe  you  are  safe  and  that  our  country  is  safe  from  this  terrorist

movement?   • What  should  the  government  do  to  protect  you  and  your  family?   • Do  you  agree  with  Governor  Greg  Abbott  that  immigrants  fleeing  from  Syria

and  the  fighting  there  and  across  the  Middle  East  should  not  be  given   sanctuary  in  Texas  or  even  the  United  States?    Why  or  why  not?

    • Discuss  your  general  understanding  of  why  these  people  who  have  created  this   movement  called  ISIS  are  doing  what  they’re  doing.    Are  they  in  any  way   justified?    Do  you  consider  you  and  your  home  threatened?    If  so,  why?    If  not,   why?

Again,  I  am  seeking  your  ideas  and  opinions.    You  do  not  need  to  do  outside  research.     I  am  interested  primarily  in  what  you  know  now  and  what  your  opinions  are  now   based  upon  the  knowledge  and  sources  you’ve  received  over  the  past  few  months  and   what  were  some  of  those  sources.

Creation of a SWOT analysis must be included to examine the various opportunities and threats existing in the online dating industry.

External Analysis Sources

· Assess proposed business of online dating industry

· Assess the competition – How can proposed business differentiate from potential competitors?

The sources identified to perform this analysis will include market analysis of the online dating industry to include a cost structure, financial projections, and profitability analysis. Information about the market is an important source of analyzing the external environment as this provides insights in the market size, opportunities for growth, expenditure configuration, and key success factors (Menke, & Menke, 2012).

Data will be obtained from financial sites that currently contain information on competitors in the industry. Demographics, which include sites that can provide statistical information on weight loss surgery individuals, will also be examined to assess the market and proposed customer base. Industry sites will also be scrutinized to aid in the analysis of the motivations and the unmet needs of the customers in the dating industry.

Internal Analysis Sources

Internal environmental analysis will be performed by looking at the internal factors that can affect the business including:

· Availability of resources

· Physical assets / financial resources

· Human resources

· Intangible resources – Brand, product quality brand associations

In this case, employee capability will be an important aspect to consider, as well as the relative cost of introducing that customized service. Capabilities of the company in terms of the strengths, weaknesses and constraints will also be used to analyze the internal environment (Menke, & Menke, 2012).

Value chain analysis is another key component in identifying internal environmental examinations. This will include how the proposed business adds customer value.

Different activities through product differentiation, decreased product costs, and rapid fulfillment of customer needs will increase benefit and therefore demand of the proposed commodity (Pearce & Robinson, 2013).

Conclusion

The proposed business of an online dating service for individuals who have experienced weight loss surgery will provide a forum that promotes a connection through similar experiences. A creation of a mission, vision, and values statement ensures that all stakeholders have guidance on the purpose of the business and how the company strives to achieve this goal. Sources have been identified that will aid in both external and internal environmental analysis of the industry.
