Unit 3 IP – Mitigating Project Risks

750 – 1500 words

You will continue to add to the Project Risk Management Plan document you created in Unit 1 and revised in Unit 2. This week, you will update the previous sections based on instructor feedback and complete the Project Risk Response Strategy section.

  1. Update any previous sections as needed based on instructor feedback or a review of the project information.
  2. Define each of the risk response strategies for both positive risks (opportunities) and negative risks (threats).
  3. Complete the Project Risk Response Strategy section. You will develop a risk response template if you are not using the Project Risk Management template that you downloaded in Unit 1. In this section, you will do the following:
    • Add the risks you identified in Unit 2, and determine the type of response strategy you will use for each risk.
    • Discuss the response strategies for each of the identified risks. Describe the specific method of handling each risk.
      • Strategies for positive risks include accept, enhance, exploit, and share.
      • Strategies for negative risks include accept, mitigate, avoid, and transfer.
    • The following matrix is an example of a risk response table:
Risk Risk Response Strategy Description of Risk Response
  1. Update the References page and the Table of Contents to show the correct page numbers.
  2. Note: Be sure to include the pages with only section headings that will be completed in later units.

Data Project 2

For this project, you will use the class data posted in the “Shared Data” Discussion containing the Week 3 Carbon Footprint Data Tables.

This data project will address Course Outcomes 1 and 3: interpret quantitative information to determine effects of human activity on the environment and to evaluate environmentally sustainable decisions effectively communicate and use scientific evidence regarding human impact on the environment with emphasize on sustainability and global citizenship

Description

This data project will be composed of two parts.  In Part I of your report, you will compile class data from the Week 3 Eco Moment on our Carbon Footprints (found in the “Shared Data” Discussion, under Carbon Footprint Data) and summarize/analyze it with Excel (or similar spreadsheet program).  Discuss what trend(s) you see in the class data that relate to course concepts.  Think about the best way to present your findings–tabular or graphical form?  There is no “right answer” here, as long as you pick a format that highlights your main findings and support your table(s) and/or graph(s) with clear text that interpret the results.  Do any of the findings surprise you?  Why or why not?

In Part II, you will research and discuss possible solutions to the environmental problems reflected in the class data. Here, you will want to support your argument with reliable, scientific resources (e.g., peer-reviewed scientific papers, white papers, and government websites). Be sure to end with a strong concluding paragraph that summarizes the main data trend(s), along with the merits and relevance of your chosen solution(s).

Format

The page limit for your written report for both Part I and Part II is 2 pages, plus 1 page for the data table/graph(s) you use to present your findings in Part I.  The page limit does not include an optional title page, the reference list, and the appendix with the raw class data. The report should be double-spaced with one-inch margins all around and use a 12-pt font.

Here is the order in which to present the various project components: Part I = describe the class data we collected, include the methodology, relevant web tool (if applicable), the mean and sample size for each result, table/graph(s) that depict the main findings and/or trends; interpret the table/graph(s) for the reader Part II = summarize research on possible solutions; be sure to incorporate reliable in-text citations and focus on relevant, attainable solutions Reference List Appendix of Raw Data = screenshot or copy in the Excel table showing all the class data (no analysis or mean)

Proposal for Class Trip to Brazil Essay

For this Assignment, you will pretend that you are making an appeal to the administration to allow your class to visit either Brazil or India. There is fictional grant money available for certain class activities, and the money must be spent by the end of the year. This would solve the administration’s need to spend the budgeted funds, but you must persuade the administration that your trip would be a valuable use of that money. Your goal is to persuade the administration to fund your class trip. You may put together a presentation in either PowerPoint of Word. The presentation must be between 600–750 words and include at least two outside sources that are cited in APA style.

First, decide if you will be encouraging a trip to either India or Brazil. You will need to conduct research on the country you select, including activities for tourists to do, popular trends in travel to this country, common sights for visitors, and the cultural influences and history.
You will highlight at least three activities that students can participate in while in your selected country. Since students should be learning about cross-cultural influences in either India or Brazil, you will want to feature activities that highlight these elements in your trip. Aim to make the tour plausible. While there will be interesting opportunities all over the country, you should select three activities that can also be reached with ease. For example, you may have two activities in one city and make the third a day trip to a location that can be reached by bus or train.
Be persuasive. Demonstrate for the administration how this would be a one-of-a-kind opportunity to communicate the Course Outcome. Since the money could be spend elsewhere, it is important to stress the importance of learning about cross-cultural influences firsthand. Encourage the administration by emphasizing both the entertainment and educational aspects of your trip. Think about what you would like to know as a potential tourist to either India or Brazil, and how you can make this relate to the fictional class’s course objective.

There is a template in Course Documents that you can follow for organizational tips. Remember to cite sources in APA style, as this college-level writing skill will impress the administrators considering your trip. Have fun with the Assignment and feel free to use images, narratives, and additional research.
