TOPIC: Narrative Christian Ethics Paper
Read the “Précis Explanation and Overview” before beginning this assignment. Write a 800 to 1,200-word essay on the topic of Narrative Christian Ethics. The paper will consist of two parts. Part I is the précis (pronounced “preh-si”); Part II is the critical analysis.
Part I: Précis
Summarize Chapter 9, beginning with the section titled “Christian Ethics as Narrative Ethics,” through the end of the chapter of Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics. Be sure to read the whole chapter for broader content and contextual understanding, even though your actual précis and critical analysis will focus on “Christian Ethics as Narrative Ethics” through the end of Chapter 9. Refrain from or severely limit utilizing quotations.
In 600 to 800 words, briefly describe the author’s thesis, key concepts/ideas, key terms, the method/approach used by the author, and the evident purpose of (reason for) the author’s piece. The précis should consist of about two-thirds of the total word count for the essay.
1. Use your own words to state what the author studied (or discussed)
2. How it was accomplished (or the procedure/focus)
3. What was learned (or what were the results)
4. What it means (or why it is important)
Part II: Critical Analysis
In 200 to 400 words, write a critical analysis. Be sure to review the “Precis Explanation and Overview.” Include the word count at the end of Part II. Be sure to stay within the given word count range to avoid penalties for not meeting or exceeding the word-count range. The critical analysis should consist of about one-third of the total word count for the essay.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.

The case analysis assignment will include a series of two papers based on a case

The case analysis assignment will include a series of two papers based on a case study that are due throughout the semester at times indicated on the course Canvas site and the course schedule. These papers assess the student’s understanding and ability to integrate individual and family theories within a systems perspective. Using the case study, One Little Boy, students will construct a comprehensive view of a family experiencing difficulty. This task develops integrative and critical thinking necessary for generalist assessment and intervention at the micro level. This analysis should double spaced text, including appendices and references and should follow the format below.  It should be formatted in APA style regarding margins, headings, page numbers, font, reference list, appendices, and in-text citations.Paper 1: Contextual Analysis (10%)
Problem Statement.2-3 sentences that summarize the central problems. The summary may cross system levels, and succinctly identifies the crucial problems that contribute to the dilemma experienced by the client/family. This is not a question, but a statement that identifies a professional analysis of the essential problem(s) in the case. Work hard to analyze the situation and not just restate the dilemma, and identify what is causing it.
Contextual Analysis. 3-page (minimum) analysis of the central issues for this case. This should include an analysis of micro, mezzo, exo, macro and chrono systems using an ecological framework. In this case, it may help to think about issues between the social worker and client(s), functioning of the various systems, the context of the treatment, agency issues, and relationships between those involved in the case.
Biological/PhysicalDevelopment Analysis. 2-page (minimum) Utilizing knowledge of physicaldevelopment, identify the possible genetic, epigenetic and biological components contributing to the problem(s). Accurately assesses the subject’s current physical development with special attention to genetic and epigenetic issues. Use at least 3 relevant sources (other than the course text) from the past five years to support this portion of the analysis.
Reflection. 1-page (minimum) Provide a reflection on what YOU  learned in this analysis. Next, identify one social work competency below and describe how this will affect your practice with individual or family dynamics and/or development.  Your reflection can be written in first person.
Genogram & Ecomap. Construct a genogram and ecogram for the client/ family. These should be placed at the end of the paper as appendices (they are not part of the three- page analysis. Be as descriptive as possible about the larger system in which this client/family resides. A good resource for learning about genograms and ecomaps is found here:

Student Journal of Race & Gender in Media (SJRGM) This semester one of your assi

Student Journal of Race & Gender in Media (SJRGM)
This semester one of your assignments is to write a 750-word research article for the Student Journal of Race & Gender in Media (SJRGM). The journal is published twice yearly, once in the summer and once in the winter, and is hosted at UnderstandMedia.com. This is an amazing opportunity for you to practice your writing, research, and analysis skills on something that will actually be published in a media journal. The journal is available free of charge online, so not only can you send a link to your article to your friends and family, but you will also be discovered and cited by academic researchers working on new work. Past students have listed their writing credit on their resumes and have used their articles as writing samples to get into a four-year university. In addition, the skills you learn in this assignment will serve you well during your academic and professional careers.
Your journal article will be written in two phases: first, you will begin your research and compose a rough draft OUTLINE of your article. This version of your article will be well researched, well organized, and will include at least three citations in MLA format. The rough draft outline is due in Week 8 (the week of our midterm). I will review your rough draft outline and offer editorial suggestions. You will then use my notes to write a brilliant final draft. The final draft will be due in Week 16 (the week of our final).
This issue of the Journal will have the theme, “Race & Gender in 2020 America,” and is inspired by the current state of race relations and gender roles in our country today. We have all seen Donald Trump makes issues of race, nationality, and gender for us to think over and debate. We have experienced Charlottesville, Black Lives Matter, George Floyd’s death, and the consequent uprisings, the Google employee memo on gender, #MeToo, #TimesUp, etc. In 2020 one thing is clear: race and gender are at the forefront of our national conversation.
With this in mind, here are some topics that fit the theme and which you are welcome to discuss:
Black Lives Matter.
Muslims, Syrian refugees, and terrorism
Gender and gender bias
Sexual harassment and assault against women
LatinXs, and specifically Mexican-Americans
White America, White Nationalists, and Neo-Nazis
The role of 24/7 news media (CNN, MSNBC, Fox) in our discussion of these issues
Diversity (or lack of diversity) in today’s media and how this affects how we see the world
The use of fear and sensationalism in politics
These are just SOME ideas that should help you decide what you’ll write about, but you’re welcome to come up with your own idea as long as it fits into the theme. Remember, this is a class about MEDIA, so anything you write should be written about in that context. So for example, if you pick gender as a topic, I’ll want you to discuss the media’s role in gender equality, how women are portrayed in the media and how this shapes our opinions, or how the media portrays women who break stereotypes. These are just some suggestions.
I will NOT be assigning you a topic. You should choose a topic that interests you, that you can research and write a 750-word paper about, and that will fit into one of the aforementioned categories. You should be prepared to spend a significant amount of time thinking about, and then researching your topic. All research should come from reputable online sources and must have been published in 2020. If you are interested in writing about a topic that does not fit one of the categories above, please e-mail me with a short summary of your proposed topic so that I may offer suggestions.
