7-1 One Discussion: Open Forum

An analysis of the evidence related to the offender of a crime may provide insight into the general nature of the crime (type of crime, motivations, etc.), the offender’s knowledge of the location of the crime, the risk level for the offender, victim selection, and the relationship between the victim and offender.

In this Open Forum Discussion, you continue your conversation about the case, focusing on concepts related to the offender.

  • Review the evidence of the criminal report from the offender’s perspective.
  • What are your initial thoughts of the offender that impact your analysis of the offense?
  • What other things would you like to know about the offender?

7-2 Second 2 Assignment: Investigating a Crime: Phase II – Concepts Related to the Offender

The final part of Phase II is the analysis of the offender. As with victimology, criminal investigative analysis of the offender is evaluated in three stages:

  • Pre-Offense – All information providing insight on such things as:
    • Planning
    • Knowledge of victim
    • Knowledge of crime scene location
  • Offense – All information providing insight on such things as:
    • Offender risk level
    • Offender actions during offense
    • Nature of the offense (motive, aggression, etc.)
      • Behaviors related to M.O.
      • Behaviors suggesting psychological needs
    • Relationship to victim
  • Post-Offense – In homicides, actions by offender can sometimes provide insight into:
    • Motivations
    • Offender/victim relationship
    • Consciousness of guilt

To prepare for this assignment:

  • Review the criminal report from the perspective of the offender.

Using health information available from Healthy People, the CDC, and other relevant government websites, analyze the health status for this group.
In a paper of 1,000-1,250 words, compare and contrast the health status of your selected minority group to the national average. Include the following:

Describe the ethnic minority group selected. Describe the current health status of this group. How do race and ethnicity influence health for this group?
What are the health disparities that exist for this group? What are the nutritional challenges for this group?

You should assume it is you, not Jones, that this scenario is happening to. Then, using what you have learned from the readings this week, you are being asked to create an email response to the following situation:

 

1. A favorite professor from your previous school reached out to you to see how you are liking the job. You respond by describing what happened in Florida, and then you share with your previous instructor what concerns you have related to this project. You should expect to explain the situation, identify your concerns, describe and explain why those concerns are valid, and then volunteer what you see as the decision you have to make moving forward (if any). It is okay if any future steps you want to take are hypothetical.

 

Parameters:

Letters should be 2 pages. They should be in letter format, addressed to a real person. You can exclude addresses.

 

Suggestions for Success:

• Be specific. Use technical terminology when appropriate, and try to use specific terms and descriptors.

 

• Add in links to sources of information, either for more information if the reader chooses to follow them or in place of academic citation. Any information that does not come from your brain needs some kind of reference, and a link is a minimal way to do that. Do not use direct quotes from a source without attributing them(publication name, date published, and author at minimum)
