What problem will earning your degree solve?

In Chapter 8 of the webtext, you’ll read Demystifying Decision-Making, an article by Maud Purcell (2016) that offers four steps in the decision making process:

Clearly define the problem
Brainstorm possible choices
List the pros and cons of each choice
Engage your feelings as well as your intellect
In this discussion, we want you to engage in the decision making process as it relates to earning your degree. In your post, focus on step 1 (clearly defining the problem) and step 2 (brainstorm possible choices) of the decision making process.

Answer these questions in your discussion post:

What problem will earning your degree solve?
Brainstorm three things that you can do today to start to prepare yourself for your future goals.
For example, maybe you are earning your degree at Strayer to change your career from retail to accounting. The problem that you are working to solve is how to gain the knowledge, skills, and credentials that will allow you to get a job as an entry-level accountant.

Similarly, three things that you can do today to help with your goal might be:

Create a profile on LinkedIn
Network with accounting firms in my area to find out what they look for in new hires
Research and join a professional association for accounting

To receive full credit, remember to write 2 posts in the discussion: one original and a response to another student. Your original should be at least 7 sentences, and your reply should be 4 sentences.

Proposal Paper: Topic Selection

COUC 515

Proposal Paper: Topic Selection Instructions

The purpose of this assignment is for you to identify 3 topics that are “researchable” ideas (Rockinson-Szapkiw & Knight, 2012; see below for more information) and list those topics from 1–3 in order of preference. You must also include a bibliography with quotes from the “Recommendations for Future Research” sections of peer-reviewed articles that indicate this research is needed in the field of counseling. Peer-reviewed research articles must be from the last 5 years (otherwise the gap may have been filled).

Step 1: Inquiry. Come up with 3 topics of interest. Here is one example: “I wonder if religion and depression are related in older adults (65 and above).”

The three researchable topics are listed below that I have chosen

· Why does African American mothers use more intense displinary practice than African American fathers

· What’s behing the higher suicide rate among black children

· How is child abuse related to mental health issues

Step 2: Review the peer-reviewed literature to identify gaps in the literature for each of the 3 topics. For example, one peer-reviewed article on your topic of interest may state, “We recommend further research on the impact of religiosity on depression prognosis, looking in particular at community samples, younger patients, and people from non-Christian faiths (Payman & Ryburn, 2010, p. 566).”

Step 3: Put together a bibliography in current APA format. The bibliography must include at least 1 article per topic that suggests that the particular research topic/question is “researchable” (see Step 2 for more information). You must include a brief 1–2-sentence summary of each article in the bibliography.

Example:

This is where you will place a brief summary of the article’s contents and how it relates to the topic selection. Remember it should be 1–2 sentences.

This assignment will be submitted via Blackboard and LiveText.

This assignment is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 1.

Psychological Testing Discussion Board

Topic: Introduction to Psychological Testing

The purpose of our first discussion board assignment is to give students the opportunity to think critically about real world applications of psychological testing. For the current discussion, please address the following issues in your thread:

Chapter 1 in the main class textbook (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2017) explores various “tools” that are used in psychological assessment (e.g., tests, interviews, portfolios, case histories etc.). Given your current or intended career path(Addiction Recovery) , identify and define at least one of these assessment tools that you presently use or likely will use in the future. Using an example, describe how you think you will apply this tool in a real world context.

By and large, the purpose of psychological testing is to help the person being assessed (e.g., clinical case histories aid in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness). Using at least one scriptural citation, build an argument for whether or not psychological assessment is a Biblically-supported practice that Christian professionals can use to serve others.

Must be 350 words and must cite the textbook Cohen & Swerdlik, 2017

cite one Bible verse

Explain the specific steps to applying the treatment
