How was your professional life affected by the stressor? How does Maslow’s hierarchy of needs relate to your stressor?

Unit VI Reflection Paper

Throughout this unit, you have learned that certain links exist between emotions, motivation, and stress. In fact, if one does not handle his or her stress effectively, numerous health issues could arise. For this assignment, you are to compose a reflection paper in which you examine a current or past stressful event in your life. You must embrace Selye’s general adaptation syndrome (GAS) and describe your reactions to the stressful event during each stage. You should describe the various facial expressions that you displayed as you progressed through each stage as well. Be sure also to address the following questions: What coping strategies did you embrace to help solve the problem? How was your professional life affected by the stressor? How does Maslow’s hierarchy of needs relate to your stressor? What motivated you to solve the problem? Did you experience additional conflicts with other individuals as you endured this life trial? Tips for writing your reflection paper: Introduction: This is meant to give a concise overview of the featured stressful event and is usually one paragraph in length. In your introduction, you will reveal the featured stressful event that you will examine for this paper. Summary: This contains your description of the required areas listed above in the opening statement, including Selye’s GAS, your facial expressions, coping strategies, professional impact, and relationship conflicts. Analysis: In this portion of the paper, you should provide information from the textbook to analyze the impact that the stressful event could have placed upon your health, future goals, and motivation. You may use sources identified from the CSU Online Library to assist your analysis efforts, but this is not required. Conclusion: This summarizes your final reflections for the featured topic. For instance, what implications have you uncovered during your research that you will apply to future stressful events? Your paper must be at least one page in length, not counting the title and reference pages, but it can be longer if necessary to address all aspects of the assignment. It should be formatted in APA style. You are required to utilize the textbook, but other sources may be used if needed. You may visit the CSU Online Library to identify a source that provides specific information on how this stressful issue could impact your health, future goals, and motivation. Any information from a source should be cited and referenced in APA style.

How might standards established like that of NBCC’s MAC help support standardization? How is this a protection of the public?

Question:

What are some of the implications of people with different levels of  training and education providing assessment related to vocational and  substance abuse counseling?

Answer:

Vocational rehabilitation and substance abuse treatment staff is focused on the provision of holistic care, which encompasses alleviating the problem and helping the clients lead a meaningful life to improve their functioning. Accordingly, the counselors are educated and ”trained to provide a wide range of vocational, educational, supportive, and follow-up services’’ (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, 2000). Organizations target talented individuals with diverse skill ranges to handle different organizational tasks. First, vocational and substance abuse counselors with varying training and educational levels come with diverse perspectives and models on how to solve the clients’ needs. Secondly, it supports the organization’s specialization for rehabilitation and treatment care hence optimizing the outcomes in a culturally-diverse world.

However, the challenge is that a lack of standardized levels of providers’ training and education would make it hard for the organization to also standardize its professional practices and requirements on employees. Some assessors with low training and educational levels may not meet the clients’ needs and organizational competency standardized making it harder for them to fit into the organization. Furthermore, lack of standardized training and education of the assessors may mean that some of them may misdiagnose the clients’ vocational and substance abuse challenges making it hard to implement the appropriate rehabilitation or treatment plans.

Question:

How might standards established like that of NBCC’s MAC help support standardization? How is this a protection of the public?

Who is the article written for (for example, women in general, pregnant women, husbands, the public at large)? What can you tell about the author of the article? What are his or her credentials? In what way might he or she be showing a bias to a certain way of thinking?

Assignment:

In the last 15 years, there has been a growing media interest in pregnancy and birth. First- person accounts of births, as well as news features on all aspects of the birth process regularly appear in newspapers, in magazines, and on television.

For this assignment you are asked to find and read two articles (magazine, newspaper, or journal), one article on a topic about pregnancy, the other on a topic about birth. For instance articles may look at topics such as: high risk pregnancies, the father’s role in birth; the role of midwives and birth attendants; the presence of siblings at birth; home birthing; the patient’s role in decision making about obstetrical procedures; the use of cesarean section; nontraditional birth methods; and medical responses to preterm birth. There may also be first-person accounts of pregnancy or birth and it’s psychological impact on the parents.

  • What experts, authorities, or studies are quoted or referenced in the article?
  • In what ways, if any, does the article seek to increase understanding of the gestation period or the birth/the birth process?
  • Is the reader urged to take any specific actions? If so, what are they?
  • Does the article discuss matters that seem to be controversial? Explain?
  • Please write at minimum 2 paragraphs about what information from the Berger text validates or conflicts with information given in the article?

Review the psychology perspectives described on the Simply Psychology website and consider which perspectives interest you the most.

Each psychological perspective offers a unique vantage point or lens through which to view human behavior. Consider violent behavior and, in particular, school shootings as an example. After a school shooting occurred, you probably recall hearing arguments from survivors, students, politicians, news anchors, bloggers, co-workers, family, and friends about why the shooter opened fire in a school. Whether you were conscious of it or not, each of these arguments could be attributed to a psychological perspective. For example, you may have heard people say that the incident occurred because the shooter played too many violent video games (behaviorist perspective), was severely abused as a child (psychodynamic perspective), or had a chemical imbalance (biological perspective). You may have also heard people say that the shooter lacked basic human needs (e.g., stable home and social support; humanistic perspective) or perceived his or her treatment by others as being unfair or unjust (cognitive perspective). Based on this example, you can see how psychological perspectives support and offer explanations for specific behaviors. You also can probably see the degree to which one’s biology (i.e., nature) and environment (i.e., nurture) are evident in each psychological perspective.

In this discussion, you will consider how psychological perspectives and one’s biology and environment explain and contribute to a variety of behaviors.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the psychology perspectives described on the Simply Psychology website and consider which perspectives interest you the most.
  • Review the remaining Learning Resources on nature and nurture. Think about how nature and nurture relate to human behavior and to the different psychological perspectives.
  • As you view this week’s media, consider the interplay between biology, experience, and behavior.

By Day 4

Post a response to the following:

Briefly describe the psychological perspective that interests you the most, and why. Then, explain how nature and nurture each contribute to behavior according to the psychological perspective you chose. Finally, evaluate how the interplay between biology and environment can impact behavior.

Note: Support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and any additional sources you identify using both in-text citations and references. It is strongly recommended that you include proper APA format and citations.
