write notes for each concept that explain its meaning, its use, and any other relevant information you believe to be fundamentally important to that concept.

Annotated Note Taking

Annotated note taking is a very useful strategy for learning new concepts. Annotated note taking is a more active form of learning than simply reading and highlighting. It also adds a more personalized element to learning by allowing a person to monitor his or her comprehension. Annotated notes are also helpful for quick review at some later point in time.

The concepts and techniques you are learning in this course are fundamental building blocks upon which a solid career as an industrial/organizational (I/O) professional can be developed. For this assignment, you will write detailed notes that should help you cement these concepts during this initial learning stage and provide a very useful resource for you to draw upon throughout your program of study and beyond graduation too.

The eight concepts for your annotated note-taking assignment are:

  • The scientific method
  • A research question
  • Hypothesis statements
  • Validity
  • Reliability
  • Sample
  • Qualitative research
  • Quantitative research

Tasks:

  • You are to write notes for each concept that explain its meaning, its use, and any other relevant information you believe to be fundamentally important to that concept. If you have any uncertainty related to a concept, you should include that in your notes. You are not allowed to use direct quotations for this assignment. You must paraphrase or, in other words, use your own words to describe and explain the concepts. This contributes to deeper learning and more meaningful notes for your later use.
  • You are to define each concept and provide at least two important items of relevant information associated with each concept.
  • Organize your notes by using each concept as a heading. Then, write a paragraph or two for each concept.

Compare and contrast the Psychodynamic perspective to the various perspectives including biological, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, sociocultural and biopsychosocial in explaining the causes of psychological problems.

Much of the research in abnormal psychology is guided by various underlying theoretical perspectives. A theoretical perspective is a particular orientation or view to understanding causes of abnormal behavior and the associated treatment. Clinicians utilize particular treatment methods based on which theoretical perspective they deem to be the most beneficial for the client. Each theoretical perspective has a unique view on explaining how abnormal behavior develops and what is necessary to minimize or eliminate the unhealthy behavior.

Compare and contrast the Psychodynamic perspective to the various perspectives including biological, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, sociocultural and biopsychosocial in explaining the causes of psychological problems. Include each theorist associated with the development of the perspective and include a minimum of three key terms associated with each theory. Does current research deem any one perspective more successful than the others? Is the outcome of psychotherapy more successful when clinicians utilize a combination of perspectives, an eclectic approach, or is it more beneficial to specialize in one main modality?

Include information from three peer reviewed articles regarding current research on the outcomes of various perspectives and cite your sources using APA format. Word count must be a minimum of 750 words (not including the Cover page and Reference page).

How would you apply the principles outlined in Modules/Weeks 1–7 to help Jack and Susan with their business?

Jack and Susan are a young couple who have come to you for help. Five years ago, they opened a Greek restaurant with Jack’s Grandmother (and all her Greek recipes). Their restaurant has now become one of the most popular spots in town. This past year they had their first child, and this has made it difficult to keep up with everything at the restaurant. They share a love of cooking, but the demands of keeping up a successful business and family are becoming overwhelming. Jack’s grandmother is unable to keep up with the busy pace at work and seems more interested in spending time with her great-grandbaby.
