How was the injustice in  Birmingham tied to all communities in the south?

Martin Luther King, Jr. was many things, a civil rights activist, nonviolent
protestor, organizer, teacher, son, husband, father, and a black man. Many
forget that he was first, a Christian Southern Baptist minister and preacher.
His religious faith informed his ethical actions. After reading selections from
Martin Luther King, Jr.’s, Letters from the Birmingham Jail,
explore the role of Christian ethics in King’s actions during the turbulent
times in the South in the 1960s. Consider the following:

  1. King was in Birmingham to address the issue of injustice by organizing a
protest. Define the injustice and the protest and explain how Judeo-Christian
ethics were applied to allow for civil disobedience. How was the injustice in
Birmingham tied to all communities in the south?
  2. King lists four steps to nonviolent campaigns. Name them. How did these flow
from King’s Christian ethical principles? How did King reconcile the “eye for an
eye” Jewish ethical principle with the Christian “love one another” ethical
    principle of nonviolence?
  3. How do King’s ethical principles help him defend against the charges that
his protests and law breaking were “untimely” considering the political
situation in Birmingham at the time?
  4. Consider areas of conflict in the world today. Pick one and discuss how
King’s actions and his ethical principles might resolve the issue.

What is REM sleep, and what role does it play in memory consolidation? Is the hippocampus, a structure known to play a role in the consolidation of memories, active during REM sleep?

Have you ever thought about why people sleep or what purpose sleep serves? This is something that many have wondered for years. Studying what happens when the average person sleeps, how long that person sleeps, and how he or she feels after sleep has taught us a great deal about sleep. Case studies of individuals who have abnormal sleep patterns or sleep needs have also been considered. Some people called nonsomniacs need very little sleep to feel restored. In addition to studying the amount of sleep each person needs, scientists have considered the possible reasons we have different stages of sleep. Scientists have pondered many other things, such as why the amount of time that people spend in different stages of sleep changes over a lifetime.

Answer the following questions:

  • Recent studies indicate that the brain takes mini naps when a person is sleep deprived. What role does sleep play in restoring one’s mind? Consider the cognitive changes that a person experiences when sleep deprived. What is it about nonsomniacs that seems to contradict what most believe about the role of sleep?
  • What is REM sleep, and what role does it play in memory consolidation? Is the hippocampus, a structure known to play a role in the consolidation of memories, active during REM sleep? Might REM-related dreams be related to one’s actual experiences?
  • Why does the amount of time that infants spend sleeping differ from adults? Does REM sleep play a role in the neural development of a young brain? Compare the amount of time people spend in sleep stages over a lifetime. How does slow-wave sleep change over the life span?

Determine whether or not matrix multiplication is commutative. Support your answer using at least one (1) real-world example or scenario.

Question 1. PHI 210 “Take a Look at Ethics Around You:” (half page)

Using what you’ve read through the WebText on ethics as a guide, examine the world around you.

Search online for your local news website and locate local a story where you believe an ethical dilemma is going on. Please keep this story local and not national news.

Explain, in a few sentences the story, the ethical dilemma you believe is going on in the story, and how you think it can be resolved.

Then comment on at least one other student’s post and solution.

Please include a link to the story in your original post.

NOTE: All   students are required to post a minimum of two (2) posts per online   discussion thread. Students must have one (1) original post and a minimum of   one (1) other post per discussion thread.

Question2. PHI 210 Reflect on the Process

Throughout this term, we’ve strived to expand your personal thought processes. Using the week 10 sections of the WebText as your guide, how do you intend on altering your approach to problem solving in the future?

If you could select one (1) aspect that you encountered over this term, what would you tell a future PHI210 student is the most important aspect of this course? What advice would you give a future PHI 210 student about how to get the most out of this class? (I may collect your advice to pass on to people next term.)

NOTE: All students are required to post a   minimum of two (2) posts per online discussion thread. Students must have one   (1) original post and a minimum of one (1) other post per discussion thread.

Question 3. Math’s Discussion Question (half of a page)

1. “System of Three (3) Equations”   Please respond to the following:

  • Write a problem for a      classmate to solve that can be translated to a system of two (2) or more      equations in at least two (2) variables. Explain your answer.

2. “Matrix Multiplication”   Please respond to the following:

Determine whether or not matrix multiplication is commutative. Support your answer using at least one (1) real-world example or scenario.

Identify and summarize a published research article, in either the print literature or online, that uses one of the multivariate statistical analysis we have looked at in this course in the results section.

You are to complete 7 of the Quizzes found in this website:  http://psychcentral.com/quizzes/  Follow the link to Quizzes then scroll down to the quizzes on  Relationships and Sexuality or Personality sections.  Please avoid using  the Quizzes on Disorders and Symptoms since the emphasis in this class  is on psychological well-being, not mental illness.

– To begin your essay, state and highlight or indicate in italics or bold  the titles of each of the self-assessments you took and briefly  describe your results in terms of your reaction and how you see your  thoughts, feelings, and behaviors coinciding with your scores.  You may  also address what surprised you about the findings.  Be certain to  provide a thorough discussion, as this part is worth 25% of your grade  on the essay

–  Next, write an overall summary describing your insight into what the  findings mean to you and what you learned about yourself in reference to  your own psychological well-being.  Again, please provide a thorough  discussion, as this part is also worth another 25% of your grade on the  essay.

Summary of a Peer-Reviewed Article

Identify and summarize a published research article, in either the print literature or online, that uses one of the multivariate statistical analysis we have looked at in this course in the results section. Acceptable articles will have factor analysis, logistic regression, MANOVA, or discriminant analysis as their primary method of data analysis.

Important: your article must be one that relates to either 1) your proposed dissertation topic, or 2) your current career of field of interest.

For this assignment, find an article based on only one experiment rather than on a series of experiments. The selected article must be based on empirical (data-based) research. Qualitative studies, meta-analytic studies, or purely descriptive research studies are not appropriate.

Summarize the study in a two-page paper, focusing primarily on the methodology and the meaning of the output. Details of the procedure (for example, sampling) are not as important as a thorough discussion of the method and its meaning. Be sure to interpret the output using the terms and vocabulary we have studied. Include in the final section of your paper HOW this article is related to either 1) your proposed dissertation topic, or 2) your current career or field of interest.
