How might mandated treatment impact your clinical decision making as the mental health professional assigned to these cases?

You have been called in to consult on cases that may require mandated treatment. After reviewing the PSY699 The ethics of mandated treatment scenarios (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., choose two to discuss in your initial post. Begin your research with the required resources for this week. Using the specific situations presented in each of the scenarios you have chosen, conduct further research to help inform your recommendations for each individual. A minimum of one resource per scenario, beyond those already required for the assignment, must be included in your initial post.

In your post, construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to present your recommendations as to whether or not treatment should be mandated for the individuals in each of the scenarios. As you write your recommendations, be certain to provide insights into the following questions.

  • What are the ethical principles and implications raised by legally mandating clients into treatment?
  • What evidence exists regarding the effectiveness of treatment with and without coercion for this type of situation?
  • What would be the challenges in evaluating the effectiveness of mandated treatment?
  • How might mandated treatment impact your clinical decision making as the mental health professional assigned to these cases?
  • What client factors might limit or augment the potential benefits of treatment if it were mandated?

Integrating concepts from your research and the required readings, offer insights across different content domains as to why you have reached these conclusions. Explain how you used the APA Ethical Code of Conduct to guide your decisions. Evaluate the generalizability of your specific research findings to the situations presented and provide a rationale as to why this research supports your recommendations.

What policy advocacy approaches and skills can you use to address the problem with political leaders?  · What are the social justice implications of your approach?

Discussion1: Managing the Impact of Schizophrenia Diagnosis

A diagnosis of schizophrenia most often comes in early adulthood. Often what are called “first breaks” come while an individual is in college. This lifelong and life-changing diagnosis for a 20- or 21-year-old often comes as a shock and causes much dismay for the client and his or her family members.

For this Discussion, consider how you would work with the client and his or her family members to acclimate to this diagnosis. Then consider how you would prepare them for the changed expectations they will now have for their loved one. Finally, using your skills from previous coursework, describe the developmental expectations that have changed since the diagnosis. Consider also the grief and loss the family will experience. Be sure to use a strengths perspective to address potential concerns.

· Post a description of how you, as a social worker, might work with a client and the client’s family in acclimating to the client’s recent diagnosis of schizophrenia.

· Then explain how you might help the client’s family manage the grief and loss related to the changes in developmental expectations since the client’s diagnosis.

· Finally, explain how you might help the client and the client’s family prepare for the changed expectations they now have for the client.

· Be sure to use the strengths perspective to address their concerns.

Discussion2:
Policy Process and Public Opinion

Managing public opinion and understanding the balance between its influence and your advocacy goals is a delicate matter. It is a task fraught with uncertainty because, as a policy advocate, you must navigate through the territory of politicians, bureaucrats, and lobbyists whose primary goals are to appease and please their constituents.

In this Discussion, you select a social problem that is of interest to you and identify how public opinion influences the process and political approaches involved in addressing that social problem.

· Post a description of the importance of public opinion in addressing the social problem you have selected.

· How does public opinion influence political approaches to the problem?

· Explain.

· What policy advocacy approaches and skills can you use to address the problem with political leaders?

· What are the social justice implications of your approach?

Use the prompt each week to guide your heading titles and organize the content of your initial post under the appropriate headings. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that are current. Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. I need this completed by 01/22/20 at 6pm.

DISCUSSION POSTS— For your Main discussion posts, I require that all posts be a MINIMUM of 250 words. The main post must contain a minimum of two (2) different references from a peer-reviewed journal or scholarly book or scholarly website. It is a good idea to use your Learning Resources each week. Wikipedia does not count as a scholarly website since the information is not validated.

Discussion – Week 9

Selecting Assessments

The Alexander Street Videos include many selections that cover specific issues, diagnoses, and treatments. Consider the population that you hope to work with as a counselor, such as at-risk youth, or people with anxiety. Use the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) and the Alexander Street Videos (AVON in the Walden Library) to find out more about these topics and appropriate assessments.

To Prepare:

  • The Walden Library has licensed a collection of videos from publisher Alexander Street, which includes many relevant to counseling and therapy. To access these videos:
    • Access the Walden Library and select Databases A-Z on the home page.
    • Then select Academic Video Online (AVON)
    • The next screen is the home  page for Alexander Street Videos
  • Search for assessments on topics such as depression, suicide risk, and other topics. Find videos of assessments that correspond to these topics of interest. I chose depression in teens
  • As you review these videos, and through your search of the MMY, think about the population that you hope to work with as a counselor. Consider which assessments would be appropriate to use with this population.

By Day 3 of Week 9

Post your reflection. Also, describe:

  • The population you hope to work with as a future counselor (At-risk youth)
  • Three assessments that you think you will use the most with your population
  • Explain why you would use these assessments

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources. Identify current relevant literature to support your work.

Provide a brief description of these variables/factors. Variables and/or factors should be directly supported by the Learning Resources.

P-E fit refers to the similarity or congruence between a person’s values or personality and his or her work environment. For example, a high-stress job as a day trader on Wall Street might be a poor P-E fit for a quiet or shy person. Good and poor P-E fit can have specific positive and negative consequences for employees in areas such as satisfaction, commitment, stress, adjustment, and withdrawal. As a result, P-E fit also can have positive and negative consequences for employers and organizations.

In this Discussion, you will examine factors signifying poor P-E fit and the consequences that can occur.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Consider a current or previous job that you or someone you know has held. Think about what factors influenced a lack of P-E fit and what consequences may have resulted.
  • Read the article “Perceived Person-Organization Fit and Turnover Intention in Medical Centers: The Mediating Roles of Person-Group Fit and Person-Job Fit Perceptions.” Consider how poor P-E fit factors can influence turnover intentions on the individual, group, and organizational level.
  • Read the article “Inclusive Leadership and Employee Well-Being: The Mediating Role of Person-Job Fit.” Consider the role of inclusive leadership in positive organizational outcomes and the mediating effect of P-E fit in achieving those outcomes.
  • Read the article “Person–Job Fit and Innovation Behavior: Roles of Job Involvement and Career Commitment.” Think about how person–job fit influences innovation behavior via job involvement as well as career commitment.
  • Read the article “Person-Job Fit and Proactive Career Behaviour: A Dynamic Approach.” Consider how the varied aspects of within-person and between-person perceived demands-abilities fit influences organizational outcomes.
  • Read the article “Person-Job Fit and the Work Commitment of IT Personnel.” Identify P-E fit factors that can influence organizational commitment.

By Day 3

Post a response to the following:

Provide an explanation of why there was not good P-E fit between you (or someone you know) and an organization. In your explanation, describe two variables or factors of P-E fit that were at play in your example. Provide a brief description of these variables/factors. Variables and/or factors should be directly supported by the Learning Resources. Then explain how these factors resulted in at least two potential consequences to the organization as a result of having hired you (or someone you know).
