Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper analyzing the formation of habits using behavioral and social/cognitive approaches. Your paper should cover the following areas:

  • Analyze one of your habits. This could be either a “good habit” or a “bad habit”.
  • Descrube your habit and the sequence of behaviors involved in it.
    • How did you develop this habit?
    • Were there role models for this habit? Which people influenced the adoption of this habit?
    • Why do you continue it? Has there been a time when you have attempted to break this habit?
  • How would behavior theory (classical and/or operant conditioning) explain how this habit developed and is maintained?
  • Analyze whether elements of social/cognitive theory may also explain how the habit formed and is maintained.
  • If you wanted to change this habit, outline a plan that applies operant conditioning principles to change it. You could consider either increasing, or decreasing its frequency.
  • On balance, does the behavioral theory or the social/cognitive theory best explain your personality characteristics and behaviors? Explain.

1

Consider the information presented in the studies, and consider your current or potential future employment related to program evaluation. Then, address the following:

  • Consider the multiple roles in which program evaluators serve and your current or future activities in program evaluation. Identify some possible conflicts of interest associated with those roles.
  • Discuss some of the potential sources of bias you are likely to encounter.
  • Discuss how political pressures create problems in program evaluations.
  • Devise strategies for minimizing the occurrence and impact of the varied problems that occur in program evaluation.

2

Consider the ethical principles and codes presented in the studies and how they apply to program evaluation.

  • Identify at least three ethical principles or codes that would be important to consider with regard to the program evaluation you are working with in your course project.
  • Discuss specific steps you should take to comply with these principles or codes.
  • Discuss how the concepts of ethical astuteness, demonstration of ethical character, and practicing ethical acuity pertain to the ethical standards you identified.

This week we focused on the knowledge and skills needed to start a business, including marketing and branding. Create a discussion post related to the concepts in the readings for this week.

Here are some ideas for your post:

  • Branding comprises visual identity (a unified look that conveys who you are and what you do, which may include a logo or mark), as well as verbal descriptions of the services you offer. You must be able to describe your business as clearly, memorably, and quickly as possible. This is often referred to as an elevator speech. Write your elevator speech and describe your current thinking about a potential visual identity or brand for your consulting business.
  • Marketing and selling are key activities for promoting your consulting business. Choose either marketing or selling and describe your planned strategy. Identify the activities that will you will use. Identify the ethical considerations of your plan.
  • Select a concept from your readings that you found particularly interesting, illuminating, or insightful. Discuss how you would apply what you learned to your professional life. Find other resources to support your thoughts.

respond to the following short answer prompt: Imagine you  are a lead social science researcher and are responsible for approving  students’ proposed research studies.

Finally, respond to the following short answer prompt: Imagine you  are a lead social science researcher and are responsible for approving  students’ proposed research studies. Review the three sample proposals  below and provide brief feedback to summarize any ethical concerns you  have related to each of the proposals, based on what you know about  ethical codes and expectations in the social sciences.

  1. Proposal 1: Racial Predisposition – The aim of this study is to  examine the direct link between biological race and violent criminal  activity. In this study, I plan to prove the direct and positive  correlation between biological race and incidence of committing violent  crimes. This will then prove that race is the strongest indicator of  tendency toward violent crimes.
  2. Proposal 2: Electroshock Therapy – In this study, I will examine the  effect of electroshock therapy on undesirable behavior in human  subjects. This study will administer electrical shocks to human subjects  as a disciplinary measure when undesirable behavior is observed. The  goal of the study is to determine whether the electroshock therapy is a  suitable treatment for resolving disciplinary issues in preteens and  adolescents. If this therapy is found to be effective, it will be  prescribed to resolve disciplinary issues in preteens and adolescents.
  3. Proposal 3: Health Problems, Diet, and Socioeconomic Status – This  study aims to examine the relationship between health problems  (diabetes, heart disease, and obesity), diet, and socioeconomic status.  It is proposed that people of lower socioeconomic status are more likely  to encounter these problems. Research will be conducted on human  subjects where data are collected on diet (the types of food consumed  along with money spent on food), and this will be related to the overall  health of individuals in the study. The results and findings of this  research will be published publicly so others can see the risks of  consuming cheap, low-quality food.

…how much of our behavior is a consequence of our unique and special qualities, the individual differences that differentiate us from other people?

For this assignment, you will: • Read the passage (below) from your textbook. • Think about the main ideas contained in the passage. • Make a list of four (4) main ideas contained in the passage. • In your own words, summarize the main ideas in paragraph form with a minimum of four (4) complete sentences.

Textbook Passage:

“…how much of our behavior is a consequence of our unique and special qualities, the individual differences that differentiate us from other people?  Conversely, how much reflects the culture and society in which we live, stemming from universal principles that underlie the behavior of all humans?  Psychologists who rely on the neuroscience perspective tend to look for universal principles of behavior, such as how the nervous system operates or the way certain hormones automatically prime us for sexual activity.  Such psychologists concentrate on the similarities in our behavioral destinies despite vast differences in our upbringing.  In contrast, psychologists who employ the humanistic perspective focus more on the uniqueness of every individual.  They consider every person’s behavior a reflection of distinct and special individual qualities.”
