Describe a recommendation for the sports organizer, who wonders if everyone should receive a trophy just for participating.

Assignment 1: Self-Esteem in Children

In the U.S., a common worry of parents is whether their children have a high self-esteem. In the age of increased awareness of the ramifications of bullying behavior (physical, verbal, and relational-aggression), as well as increased competition it is no wonder parents are concerned. Aleksandar is a coordinator of athletic programs for Centervale. In the past, parents have insisted on participation trophies for all kids playing sports between the ages of 5 and 11. There is currently a debate in Centervale regarding whether participation trophies for everyone should continue through middle school as well. Some parents think it will help with self-esteem, while other parents recall never getting participation trophies when they were growing up and think losing can be a good lesson.

Tasks:

Think about what you have learned in this module about physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development in middle childhood. In the Discussion Area, respond to the following:

  • Explain the type of parenting style that would lend itself well to creating a healthy self-esteem and why.
  • Describe a recommendation for the sports organizer, who wonders if everyone should receive a trophy just for participating.
  • What arguments can be made on both sides of the debate? Be sure that you discuss development and how social, cognitive, and physical development during middle childhood should factor into the decision.
  • Remember to support your responses by citing your weekly readings from the online lectures and the textbook.

Submission Details

  • By the due date assigned, post your 200- to 300-word response to the Discussion Area.
  • Through the end of the module, review and respond to the questions submitted by at least two of your classmates. Describe the quality of your working relationship with your colleague. ( The Quality of the working relationships went really well, very easy going, open-minded and productive collaborate teamwork working with my colleagues so far)

Collaboration is a key part of social work practice. Most MSW professionals engage in these processes during the postgraduate practice years that each state requires before their licensing moves from supervised to independent status. Even beyond those requirements, peer consultation and collaboration are key aspects of most social work practice settings.

For this Assignment, your Instructor has paired you with a consultation colleague. Imagine that you and your colleague are working with the client featured in the case study your Instructor assigned. Your task is to provide a diagnosis and present your findings in the Week 7 Discussion.

Your diagnosis can come from any part of the DSM-5, so frequent communication and research with your colleague may be needed. Your colleague is there to help you think out, consult on, challenge, research, and polish your process before you record and post your own final analysis of this case in Week 7.

The collaboration that begins in this Assignment is intended to provide a safe venue for developing your differential diagnosis and case discussion skills with your colleague. This week you meet with your assigned partner at least once via Collaborate Ultra and begin considering the assigned case. In this Assignment, you describe that meeting and any initial analysis of the case.

To prepare:

  • Using the case study provided to you by your instructor.
  • Consult the Case Collaboration Meeting Guidelines document found in the Learning Resources.
  • Read ahead to the Week 7 Discussion instructions so that you can plan and reflect accordingly.

Note: In the Week 7 Discussion, you make your final findings presentation as an individual, not with your partner.

By Day 7

Submit a 1- to 2-page paper in which you describe your team meeting. In your write-up, make sure to address the following:

  • Describe the quality of your working relationship with your colleague. ( The Quality of the working relationships went really well, very easy going, open-minded and productive collaborate teamwork working with my colleagues so far)
    • Critically reflect on strengths of collaborative relationship and areas for improvement.
  • Describe your case in 100–150 words
  • Identify the red flags in your case study to be further evaluated. ( Red flags were Alcohol, suicidal thoughts, abuse, overdose, family history, cannot keep a job longer than 3 years, and attempted suicide. )
  • Outline your and your partner’s plan for further research and consultation, identifying specific tasks that you are each doing in this regard. ( I will be researching and working on the possibility of a diagnosis of Bipolar 2 and studying The case of Sigmund more thoroughly. Toni will be working on and researching BIpolar 1 and Somang will be working on possible other diagnoses such as major depression and attachment disorders. )
  • Identify days/times you have agreed to meet together, including the date planned to complete the CFI interview required for the Week 5 Assignment. We have agreed and decided to meet again via ultra collaborative or via email with our findings and research by Monday at 9 am September 23rd. IF that does not work due to one being out of town collaboration will be via email.

Psychological Treatment Plan

It is recommended that students review the e-book The Complete Adult Psychotherapy Treatment Planner (Jongsma, Peterson, & Bruce, 2014) for additional assistance in completing this assignment.

Clinical and counseling psychologists utilize treatment plans to document a client’s progress toward short- and long-term goals. The content within psychological treatment plans varies depending on the clinical setting. The clinician’s theoretical orientation, evidenced-based practices, and the client’s needs are taken into account when developing and implementing a treatment plan. Typically, the client’s presenting problem(s), behaviorally defined symptom(s), goals, objectives, and interventions determined by the clinician are included within a treatment plan.

To understand the treatment planning process, students will assume the role of a clinical or counseling psychologist and develop a comprehensive treatment plan based on the same case study utilized for the Psychiatric Diagnosis assignment in PSY645. A minimum of five peer-reviewed resources must be used to support the recommendations made within the plan. The Psychological Treatment Plan must include the headings and content outlined below.

Behaviorally Defined Symptoms

  • Define the client’s presenting problem(s) and provide a diagnostic impression.
  • Identify how the problem(s) is/are evidenced in the client’s behavior.
  • List the client’s cognitive and behavioral symptoms.

Long-Term Goal

  • Generate a long-term treatment goal that represents the desired outcome for the client.
    • This goal should be broad and does not need to be measureable.

Short-Term Objectives

  • Generate a minimum of three short-term objectives for attaining the long-term goal.
    • Each objective should be stated in behaviorally measureable language. Subjective or vague objectives are not acceptable. For example, it should be stated that the objective will be accomplished by a specific date or that a specific symptom will be reduced by a certain percentage.

Interventions

  • Identify at least one intervention for achieving each of the short-term objectives.
  • Compare a minimum of three evidence-based theoretical orientations from which appropriate interventions can be selected for the client.
  • Explain the connection between the theoretical orientation and corresponding intervention selected.
  • Provide a rationale for the integration of multiple theoretical orientations within this treatment plan.
  • Identify two to three treatment modalities (e.g., individual, couple, family, group, etc.) that would be appropriate for use with the client.

It is a best practice to include outside providers (e.g., psychiatrists, medical doctors, nutritionists, social workers, holistic practitioners, etc.) in the intervention planning process to build a support network that will assist the client in the achievement of treatment goals.

Evaluation

  • List the anticipated outcomes of each proposed treatment intervention based on scholarly literature.
    • Be sure to take into account the individual’s strengths, weaknesses, external stressors, and cultural factors (e.g., gender, age, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc.) in the evaluation.
  • Provide an assessment of the efficacy of evidence-based intervention options.

Ethics

  • Analyze and describe potential ethical dilemmas that may arise while implementing this treatment plan.
  • Cite specific ethical principles and any applicable law(s) for resolving the ethical dilemma(s).

The Psychological Treatment Plan

  • Must be 8 to 10 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:

Forgetting even very little things made me visit the psychiatrist. Also, I could the plates on the floor after eating, spilling the food all over me, and unable to drive when am heading to work.
