part 2

SM has no fear, she lives entirely without this one emotion due to a rare medical condition.  One might reason that her life should be perfect, but it is not. According to psychologist Paul Ekman, all humans are born with six basic emotions: anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, and surprise.

You can read more about other and more global ideas of what the range of emotions are here:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/hide-and-seek/201601/what-are-basic-emotions

After you have contemplated being hardwired with a set of six emotions, read the transcript to this podcast about SM–scroll down to the second mention of “This is INVISIBILIA” if you are short on time and go from there.  Then, speculate and discuss why we need fear and anxiety, how it can cause us mental distress, but also how it shapes a healthy life. What do you think her existence is like without one of the basic emotions? How might it affect your parenting, driving, crossing the street and do forth? Finally, If you could chose to eliminate one of your emotions, which one would it be and why?

Evaluate the developmental changes and appraise the effects of the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social environments.

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review the age group / developmental stage you selected in Week Two of the course. Remember, you must use this age group / developmental stage.

You will then review the Developmental Psychology literature examining findings for that age group / developmental stage in terms of the physical, emotional, cognitive, social dimensions, and how they impact development and can best be used to meet developmental needs.  Additionally, create a summary of the developmental stage as viewed through the lens of one developmental theory we have studied across the course (Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development, Freud’s Psychosexual Theory, Erickson’s Psychosocial Theory, etc.).

In your paper,

  • Examine the physical changes associated with the selected developmental stage.
  • Examine the cognitive changes associated with the selected developmental stage.
  • Examine the emotional changes associated with the selected developmental stage.
  • Examine the social changes associated with the selected developmental stage.
  • Evaluate the developmental changes and appraise the effects of the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social environments.
  • Integrate developmental and environmental factors into an assessment of developmental needs.
  • Create a summary of the developmental stage as viewed through the lens of a selected developmental theory.
  • Propose solutions for areas not addressed by the theory.
  • Analyze the ethical considerations for research and practice with the selected developmental stage.

    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must use at least five scholarly sources in addition to the course text.
    • The Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible SourcesPreview the documentView in a new window table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. By the end of week, review and comment on at least two of your classmates’ answers. Your responses should be substantive, which means that you should provide a significant level of detail in your reply and show active engagement by referencing the readings, drawing on your own experiences, giving your opinions, respectfully disagreeing where appropriate, or asking questions designed to generate further discussion on the material and its implications outside the realm of the question.

Question: Answer one of the following questions:

1. Throughout the novel, the reader is told that Don Quixote is mad, driven by his irrational belief that he is living out the romances of chivalry that he has read. However, the contemporary Spain he encounters seems to be highly immoral and unethical. Are we meant to see Don Quixote as simply a satire of medieval literature, or is there some value in his antiquated morality? Make sure to support your answer with specific examples from the text.

2. Machiavelli’s concept of a strong ruler, who was driven by pragmatism instead of morality, was a direct challenge to the political thought of his time, which insisted on the importance of Christian ethics. How do Machiavelli’s ideas fit with our contemporary understanding of politics? Was he correct in his belief that ethics should be subordinate to other considerations?

Remember that your claims in all parts of the assignment should be substantiated by excerpts from appropriate sources (scholarly research and/or literary texts). Quotes, paraphrases, and summaries used in the assignment should be arranged according to APA rules of style, and in-text and reference citations should be provided, also formatted in APA style. Quoted material should not exceed 25% of the post. Submit the final document in the Discussion Area.

Evaluate Phillip Markoff’s personality from the      standpoint of your chosen theory. Explain how the chosen theoretical perspective provides      insights into Markoff’s behavior.

Discussion 1

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 7 from the Harré (2006) e-book as well as the required Maslow (1943), Freud (1910), Bandura (1999), and the United States Office of Personnel Management (n.d.) articles.

One approach to understanding personality is using trait theories. The most influential trait approach contends that five traits, or factors called the “Big 5,” lie at the core of personality. The five factors are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism (Emotional Stability).

This week, you will complete two different versions of the Big 5 Personality Test. First, go through the Qualtrics platform to take the complete test online. After you have completed the online test, you will see a link to download the Big Five Personality Short Form document version. Click the link and save the Big Five Personality Short Form document to your computer. Complete and score the short form version within the downloaded document. Once you have completed both the online and document versions attach the completed document short form to your initial post. In the discussion forum analyze and briefly explain the Big 5 Personality Test as a scientific tool. Detail your experience with both the online and document versions and give your opinion as to which of the two provided the better experience. Be sure to cite specific reasons for your statements.

Using the PSY600 Making Sense of the Big 5 Personality Short Form tool as a guide, analyze the results from your document version. (Note: This is for educational purposes. There is no right or wrong personality type.) Assess how accurate the results are based on your understanding of yourself and the results as analyzed. Refute any areas with which you disagree providing examples which may disprove the assessment results. Evaluate the contemporary applications of personality tests today using the information provided in the United States Office of Personnel Management (n.d.) article on assessment and selection. Assess how knowing one’s personality type can benefit them personally and professionally.
Discussion 2

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the transcript Seven Day of Rage: The Craigslist Killer from CBS News and review Chapter 7 from the Harré (2006) e-book as well as the Maslow (1943), Freud (1910), and Bandura (1999) articles.

In this discussion you will assume the role of a Psychology instructor creating a short graduate level presentation on personality. The case study for the presentation will center on Phillip Markoff, also known as an alleged Craigslist Killer. To begin, choose one of the personality theories from the required readings and research a minimum of one peer-reviewed article on your chosen theory in the Ashford University Library. Create a PowerPoint presentation of four-seven slides (not including the title and reference slides). The presentation must begin with a Title slide that provides the title of the lecture, your name, the course name and number, your instructor’s name and the date submitted. The presentation must end with a Reference slide that includes all the resources used for your lecture presentation cited in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

The body of the presentation must include the following elements.

  • Provide a definition and brief description of the      chosen theory.
  • Evaluate Phillip Markoff’s personality from the      standpoint of your chosen theory.
  • Explain how the chosen theoretical perspective provides      insights into Markoff’s behavior.

For assistance in creating effective PowerPoint presentations you may access Garr Reynolds’s Top Ten Slide Tips . Be certain to support your statements within the presentation with a minimum of three references. These may include up to two required resources for this week.

Once you have created your PowerPoint, you will present your lecture in a screencast. You may use any screencasting software you choose. (Quick-start guides are available for Screen-Cast-O-Matic for your convenience.) It is recommended that you create a script for, and practicing your lecture presentation before recording it as you will be limited to a screencast of no more than five minutes. Although you are required to include the Title and Reference slides in the presentation, you should not read these slides during the screencast.

Create the screencast of your lecture presentation using the software of your choice. Attach your PowerPoint presentation to your initial post and copy and paste the URL for your screencast into your discussion forum response before submitting it.
