  2. Consider everything you have read and watched this week. How can the knowledge of social and cultural identity and development influence your interactions with children and families? Does knowledge of social and cultural identity influence your work?

Classroom Volunteer Plan

This assignment is due in 24 hours.

Community involvement in the classroom helps establish a safe environment for young children to grow up in and learn to be a functioning citizen. Establishing volunteer opportunities early in a school year develops a strong united team between families, teachers, and state agencies who provide assessment and other services to meet students’ diverse developmental needs. Many teachers seek volunteers as early as Meet the Teacher night.

Develop a 10-12 slide digital presentation that you could present to families at Meet the Teacher night to encourage them to engage in their child’s education by volunteering in the classroom. This presentation should include:

  • The positive effects family and community involvement in the classroom can have on student learning outcomes.
  • Five or more expectations for volunteers in your classroom, including any health and safety requirements.
  • At least 1-2 examples of child-centered educational activities volunteers could be involved in that extend the learning community beyond the classroom.
  • Five or more volunteer options varied to provide opportunities for families with diverse schedules, cultures, languages, and worldviews.
  • At least 2-3 community resources to assist families in engaging in their child’s education.
  • Include a title slide, references slide and presenters notes.

APA format not is required. Solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Overview

As stated in the module overview, the study of learning examines how individuals acquire and modify their knowledge, behaviors, skills, and beliefs. By understanding how learning occurs, exploring what motivates students to learn, and studying various learning theories, leaders can craft effective learning environments and teaching approaches based on the diverse needs of their learners. This assignment is designed to flesh out this overview as you articulate student-centered and constructivist approaches to learning in the context of a biblical worldview, roleplaying yourself as the teacher implementing the strategies you have learned.

Overview: In this individual assignment you will be reviewing your previous journal entries and use the rubric to develop an “Individual Professional Development Plan.”  Most Ohio school districts require teachers to complete an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).  If you have an IPDP, or if you have a form your district requires you to use, you may utilize this template; however, please be sure that all the elements required for this assignment are included; specifically step three.

Step One: Review your journal entries and identify two to three criteria under the five broad rubric areas that you would personally like to address in an “Individual Professional Development Plan.”

Step Two: Utilizing the Planning Template [Word Doc], create Goals for yourself that reflect your desire to improve your competencies in the areas identified in Step One.

Step Three: Review the Ohio Standards for Educators and note on the template which standard area and element connects with your goal.

Step Four: Complete the Planning Template [Word Doc] by identifying specific professional development opportunities you could engage in that would help you meet your individual improvement goals

Step Five:  Write a one – three page analysis of your professional development plan.  Use the readings from the course to support your explanation for your professional development plan and explain how this plan will help you to move up on the F.I.T. rubric.  Also, explain how you might use this professional development to reach the highest levels of the rubric and begin to become a leader in the profession.
