History of queer

In Barker & Scheele’s book, the first part we are reading is about the history and many different ways that the word “queer” has been used. Reflect on your history with this word: when did you first hear it? What did it mean or how was it used? What do you think of the way in which the word is used in this reading – how is it different from your earlier understanding of this word?

The essays are open in format, feel free to be personable, creative, etc (include poetry? Drawings? All are fine and acceptable elements as part of the essay). The essays should quote from the course readings at some point in the essay. Include a reference list at the end when you cite or quote information.
