I’m stuck and don’t understand.You’ll choose ONE of the three longer, source-rich essays for our class (Malcolm Gladwell, Claudia Rankine, or Susan Elizabeth Shepard,) and do a 2-page analysis of what kinds of evidentiary supports the writer uses. LEVELS AND APPEALS:Remember our chart from class that asks you to align a writer’s evidence in terms of the three kinds of rhetorical appeal (pathos, logos, ethos) and the three levels of a source’s relationship to the issue at hand in the essay (primary, secondary, tertiary). You don’t necessarily have to tick every box for every source, but either levels or appeals are an easy way to organize a paper of this length.ORGANIZATION:As I say above, levels and appeals are a good way to organize this paper because, being only 2 pages, your essay should be roughly three paragraphs. A paragraph, as a good rule of thumb, should be 6-8 sentences long. You don’t have to use levels and appeals, though; you may choose to organize your paper based on how significant you think sources are to the argument or in some other way that strikes you as effective.REQUIREMENTS:You need to analyze AT LEAST FIVE sources used by your chosen writer.
You need to have a CENTRAL SUMMATION of what you perceive to be your chosen writer’s argument that governs your sense of each source’s purpose.
You need to include AT LEAST THREE direct quotations from your chosen essay + offer interpretation that supports your evaluation of the workings of the essay’s argument.
You need clear topic sentences for each paragraph.
You need to provide appropriate MLA in-text citations for your quotations; you do NOT need a formal Works Cited page since these essays are shared class reading that we all know how to access.
