For this discussion, please propose a research topic, dependent variable, and preliminary hypothesis that you might use for your final research paper proposal. This is not binding – you do not have to stick to these as you move forward in your research – but it will be helpful to start thinking about this as soon as possible. Please state the topic, DV, and hypothesis as clearly and succinctly as you can.
Then, explain how you would go about selecting a single case in which to examine or test the proposed hypothesis. Make sure to articulate a thoughtful argument about case selection that draws on the articles by Seawright and Gerring or George and Bennett, and explain what features of the case make it a suitable one for in-depth, qualitative analysis.
