A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well… Not always. Many of you have probably endured painful
presentations using slides and terrible design.
There are a number of ways that visual aids can go wrong, including too much text, text that’s too small, and
dull, cliche images. And sometimes speakers want to use their slideshows as substitutes for themselves, just
clicking through and letting the audience absorb the information.
Take a look at these two articles: “PowerPoint should be banned” and “Why PowerPoint is Awesome”. They’re
both satirical, but they make good points.
And here’s the discussion question: What are good visual aids, anyway? Share your ideas about what visual
aids add to a presentation and which can derail an otherwise good presentation.
