Early Childhood Themes & Life Cycles
Identify a theme in Early Childhood and/or the associated cycles and transitions to research. In
addition to the topic you choose you must incorporate an aspect of culture AND a developmental stage into the
exploration. Examples of topics include, but are not limited to:
• Divorces’ impact on small children in poverty
• Community violence among school aged Latino children.
• Parental Educational attainment and outcomes for
• Self Esteem among Black youth 6-10.
• Rates of autism among Asian American toddlers.
Review the body of research that addresses the question you pose. The purpose is to:
• Identify what is already known about the topic you are researching,
• Identify questions that the research doesn’t seem to answer and/or
• Make a case for why further study is needed.
As you review the journal articles, texts and manuals you select on the particular topic of interest please
consider the following:
• How are the sources similar in terms of methods, philosophies, claims and reliability?
• How do they differ?
• Are there gaps in the research that require further study?
• Are there particular issues or problems that stand out?
