Using everything you have learned about the division of labor (both Durkheim and Marx), how would you explain the need for students to select (specialize) a major at 18-19 years-old when in college? What are the consequences of such decision for the larger society (not just for the individual)? What are the consequences on people’s long-term career goals and people’s understanding of one another and the need to live in a society that serves all?
