In your position as Director of Staffing, you’ve learned that Vijay, your organization’s Senior Sales Manager, is retiring.  As you work through the recruiting process, you narrow the candidate pool down to two applicants: one internal and one external.

The internal candidate, Melissa, has been with your organization for 13 years, and received excellent performance evaluations throughout her tenure. The external candidate, Raoul, works for a close competitor, and has valuable knowledge and experience in the product market into which your organization wants to expand.

1. Do you think your organization has an ethical obligation to promote Melissa? Why or why not?
