Describe Univariate and Multivariate Analyses
Instructions
Provide a brief overview of MANOVA and ANOVA statistical analysis and at least six different multivariate procedures in addition to the MANOVA. In addition, you will describe the importance of exploratory analysis in statistical procedures. Complete the following four components.
1. Provide (a) a definition for the MANOVA and ANOVA statistical procedures and (b) include a very brief explanation for why each procedure is used, data type requirements (e.g., interval, ratio, ordinal, nominal), minimum number of variables (e.g., independent, dependent, predictor, criterion), resultant indices (e.g., F score, chi-square, Wilks lambda), and the interpretation of the resultant indices. Paraphrase your response (rather than quotations) and cite your resources.
2. In a five-column chart (i.e., worksheet format), contrast a total of six different multivariate statistical procedures (excluding MANOVA); the name of the statistical procedure will be in column one. Include:
multiple regression, principal-component analysis, cluster analysis, and three others from the following procedures: path analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, meta-analysis, Q-Technique factor analysis, structural equation modeling, canonical correlation analysis, repeated measures, logistic regression, discriminant analysis, factor analysis, survival analysis, multidimensional scaling, correspondence analysis, or conjoint analysis. In the five-column chart, be sure to include the following descriptions relative to the specific procedure (a) data type requirements (e.g., interval, ratio, ordinal, nominal); (b) resultant statistical indices (e.g., F score, chi-square, Wilks lambda); c) minimum allowable number and type of variables (e.g., independent, dependent, predictor, criterion); and, d) why the statistical procedure is used in column five.
3. Prepare a two to three paragraph discussion on the importance of exploratory analysis and how it is beneficial to conduct before any statistical analysis.
4. Locate a current (within the last 3 years) research study (not an abstract, literature review, or meta-analysis) in which a multivariate procedure was used. In two to three paragraphs, identify the procedure, evaluate why the procedure was appropriate for the intent of the study, and discuss whether the findings were correctly interpreted within the parameters of the statistical procedure.
Support with at least five scholarly references.
