Cultural & Ethical Dilemmas for Rehabilitation Counselors

Use the case study to develop a scenario of an ethical dilemma addressing each principle. You should have five (5) ethical dilemmas from the 5 ethical principles. (Autonomy, Nonmaleficence, Beneficence, Justice, and Fidelity). Following each ethical principle for the client from the case study should have: 1) a dilemma; 2) a selected course of action; 3) reasons why precedence should be given, in that situation, using the code of ethic(s). For each scenario the client must be a different ethnicity. Cultural considerations should be addressed. Please use the format provided. References should be in APA format.

 

Case Study

The client is a 30-year-old male who lives with his parents; father and mother, ages 55, and sister, age 18. He loves his home environment and gets along with his family members. He was diagnosed with Renal Disease secondary to Type I Diabetes. He developed Type I Diabetes at the age of 16 and has recently developed Renal Failure requiring dialysis twice weekly. After being diagnosed with Renal Disease and developing Renal Failure, Mr. Velázquez reports having frequent feelings of depression and anxiety due to stress and limited pain management.

Vocational objective: To become employed as a receptionist. With counseling, medical services and reasonable accommodations, he should achieve functional capacity for clerical work. He is a high school graduate and has completed two years of college. He enjoys people and would like to secure employment as a receptionist. Mr. Velázquez has some experience with clerical work from previous employment as a convenience store clerk, but he will need short term vocational training to improve his skills.
