Informative Speech

My topic is fast food.

Assignment One: The Informative Speech – 4:00 minutes

In this assignment you will deliver a four-minute informative speech that is designed to bring new and important information to your audience. You will practice the skills of audience analysis, speech preparation, outlining, and presentation.

Choose a topic about a general phenomenon (not a specific event) that you wish to inform or educate your audience about. For example, topics such as crime among teenagers, alternative models for health care delivery, trends in employment or the economy or global warming would all be appropriate for the assignment. A speech about a step-by-step process of how something is done, a play-by-play account of a murder trial, or a description of the World Soccer Cup Finals would not be appropriate. Be sure to consider your audience when selecting a topic. Demonstration or “how-to-do-it” speeches are not acceptable. You may not sure a sports related topic.

A minimum of two documented and orally cited sources are required. Your sources should be current (within the last three years).

Determine the central thesis and main points of your topic. Be sure to use transitions from each major point to the next and clearly tie each main point to the thesis.

Select the most important supporting material for each main point. Remember, you cannot include everything, so carefully choose the most vivid and illustrative material from your research to clearly develop each main point.

An outline is required to be turned-in immediately before you give your presentation. You must use visual aids. See the speech evaluation sheet for the criteria that will be used in evaluating your presentation.

Outline Requirements for the Informative Speech

All outlines are to be typed. Untyped outlines are not accepted.

Final (formal) outlines are graded by completeness, correctness of form, logical coherence, and incorporation of your instructor’s suggestions. Outlines will contain the following elements:

Sample Basic Outline

Outlines must be turned-in immediately before you give your speech. Outlines should be formatted as described below and typed. Use 12 pt. Times Roman font. DOUBLE SPACE.

Title of the Speech

Introduction, Attention Getter, Relevance Statement, Thesis Statement

This is where you get the audience’s attention and tell them what the speech is about. Tell your audience why they should listen or care about your speech, why it’s relevant and what qualifies you to talk on the subject.

Body of the Speech

Use full sentences to outline your main points and sub points. These should be sentences with keywords that will serve as prompts for the actual speech. Remember, speeches are not read. They are ad-libbed from notes. Don’t read to your audience. Talk informally and conversationally to them.

I. Main point

For example. The one-legged pterodactyl is a prehistoric amphibian with the ability to fly. (Dinosaurs, 2011)

Conclusion

Summarize what you have said, what you’ve informed the audience about or what you want them to take away from the presentation. In a persuasive speech, this should be your call to action. Always try to end with some thought or clincher.

HEALTH CARE – CASE 2

Hello everyone,

Please read case 2 (attached file) and answer these two questions.

1: Please identify and explain at least four of the mostly likely mistakes (traps) the Aging Gracefully CEO may make when looking for possible solutions for his organization. Please use information from the reading: The Hidden Traps in Decision Making and information from the case to support your answer.

2:  Please perform a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis on Aging Gracefully. Provide at least four points for each category (Please ensure to use information provided in the case to support your answer).

Thank you.

What you need to find out about each of the places you find is: populations they serve, the treatment delivery options (inpatient, outpatient, partial treatment, home intervention, aftercare etc.),

Discussion

After reading this week’s chapters,  and viewing the posted videos, do a bit of research on the medications  commonly prescribed for people with the different personality  traits/disorders, and also for children and adolescents suffering from  internalizing disorders and externalizing disorders. This discussion don’t have to be long only a few paragraphs. Don’t forget to cite.

Assignment 2

This week you are to research and compille an in-depth list of  community mental health service delivery options available in your  community for your target population.  For example if you will be  working in the schools, look for options that serve children and teens,  if you plan to work with adults, look for options that serve primarily  adults.

What you need to find out about each of the places you find is:   populations they serve, the treatment delivery options (inpatient,  outpatient, partial treatment, home intervention, aftercare etc.),  is  there someone on staff  who can prescribe and monitor medications,  what  is required for a first visit, payment options available, and how long  is the wait to see a licensed mental health clinician?

Once you have your list compiled, write an informed critique of the  service available in your community (2 pages double spaced maximum).   Give examples of populations served, undeserved, or not served at all.   This critique should be based on factual information as well as your  opinion.  Use sources to back up what you are saying when appropriate.

Assignment 3

After reviewing the Manson video write what your learn and what was interesting.

Assignment 4

Bill suffers  from auditory hallucinations (he hears voices telling him to kill). If  he tries very hard, he can keep the voices from being loud enough to  influence him, but it is tiring to do so. One day, Bill was too worn out  to stop the voices. He listened to them, picked up a gun, and shot a  complete stranger on the sidewalk.

Do you think Bill’s actions were done out of free  will. Should he be held personally responsible for his actions? Is Bill a  product of biological or psychological forces outside his control? Take  a position, explain your reasoning and describe which of the multi-path  areas explains the behavior best. You must reply/respond to at least  one other peer. If you do not reply or respond you will at the most get  1/2 credit (6 points). Be sure your reference your sources.

Benchmark- Language Arts Unit Plan

n the first part of the practicum, spend 3 hours each in three reading classrooms (9 hours total), grades 4-8. It is suggested that these initial observations occur during Topics 2-4. Analyze how instructors use strategies to ensure students’ understanding in the reading and writing components of the reading lessons. Determine how these strategies will influence the second part of the practicum.

  1. Include both mainstream and language minority students.
  2. Two observations must be in different grade levels and one observation must be in a Title 1 school.
  3. Choose a specific grade and concept from the Arizona language arts academic standards.

In the second part of the practicum (between Topics 5 and 6), select one of the classrooms you observed and spend an additional 6 hours designing and teaching a week-long (5 day) unit.  For this unit use a single piece of text that is appropriate for the grade level and language arts academic standards. A poem, short story, newspaper article, or content area piece may serve as a single text selection.

Create a mini-lesson (15-30 minutes) to address each of the following areas related to literacy development:

  1. Monday: Oral language and vocabulary
  2. Tuesday: Phonics, word patterns, and word analysis
  3. Wednesday: Fluency
  4. Thursday: Reading Comprehension
  5. Friday:  Writing

Each day’s mini-lesson should address an evaluation of learning that is objective and measurable, and directly assesses the students’ achievement of the targeted academic standards. Every lesson should have the following structure at a minimum:

  1. Objective (linked to academic standards)
  2. Materials (include copies of all materials to teach lesson)
  3. Procedure (a step-by-step description of the lesson from beginning to end)
  4. Assessment (a concrete, measurable way to assess the objective)

Each mini-lesson should be a piece of the larger whole, not individual or unconnected lessons. That is, lessons later in the week should build on lessons from earlier in the week, and they should all reinforce and integrate skills from the prior lessons in the weekly sequence.

The remaining 5 hours of the practicum should be used for conferring with your mentor teacher regarding your teaching, management, and engagement strategies, as well as conducting an analysis of student learning. Use your assessment data to formulate a plan to adjust your teaching to meet student needs. Utilize this data and mentor teacher feedback to adjust your unit plan before submitting it to the instructor and to LoudCloud.

Write a 1,500-1,750-word proacticum reflection that includes the following:

  1. A synopsis of your observations in the reading classrooms, and how they influenced your Language Arts Unit Plan.
  2. A reflection on the language arts unit plan after you taught it. What were its strengths and weaknesses? What would you change and why? What did you learn about teaching from your mentor teacher? Include this reflection with your unit plan.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for completion.

You are required to submit it to Turnitin.

Submit the assignment to the instructor at the end of Topic 8.
